It was rewritten for Shirley. And what a lovely film it made! (I loved Victor McLaglen)

In the 80s when Joffrey performed in L.A. for six weeks a year, Dr. Silver gave us a party and I got to go inside this very playhouse made of 'Depression Glass'.

She was precious! I loved The Little Princess. Heidi is my favorite, though.

"Heidi" was my favorite. I stayed up until 4 am once to see it on TCM.

A political statement, perhaps?

I got to meet her in the mid 1990's, when I worked for a non-profit here in SF. She was coming to speak at a luncheon and I have to say...she was a very nice lady with impeccable taste in dress and manner. We didn't dare aske her any questions about her film career though...just about what she was doing politically at that time. It was enough to be able to stand by her and just watch her "sparkle".
Favorite performances?
Bright Eyes (God, remember her mother getting run down, on Christmas, carrying Shirley's cake, on the way to her airport party? I still remember the "Happy Landings" smeared all over the street!). Plus, Jane Withers and her machine gun!
The Little Colonel (that tap dancing stair routine!)
Little Miss Marker (need I say more? Damon Runyon story, gansters, molls and a horse?)
Curly Top (simply for the "What I mean is ho ho ho ho!" song on the piano) - and doesn't she tell that great duck joke in the orphanage in this one? Remember? "Well, can you lay an egg?".

I'd assume it's her being such a Republican.

Okay Shirley-philes.
What is the movie where she sings to her dolls after she wakes up, and they're all different races, and there is a black doll and she sings "Hidey, Hidey!"??
