Happy 80th to America's Sweetheart!
I really would have liked seeing her as Veda Pierce.
Child Genius!
She would have kicked butt as Veda! She became quite the little actress after her childhood years. I love her in Since You Went Away and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer. I'm sure she could have nailed Veda. I think audience were a little weirded out by their favorite little darling growing up. But she did make the transition to young leading lady very well, and in some hit movies too.
Not that I don't love me some Ann Blyth though!
But can you imagine Joanie Crawford slapping the hell out of Shirley Temple!
Bring it on! That would have rocked the confederacy.
When I saw this thread, the first thing I thought of was Since You Went Away. That's one of those movies that I would love to see on a big screen.
Get well soon Shirley!

Every time I see her with her married name, I flash to an epsiode of "Laugh In" where one of the pop-ups during a party was:
"Paint Shirley Temple" (a few moments later) "Black"
Even worse than that, when I was a little kid, I used to think there was a little talented black girl out there who was named Shirley Temple Black. I wish to god I was joking but I'm not. I was also about 7 years old at the time, but I thought there was a Shirley Temple... and a Shirley Temple Black.
I guess it was the way a seven-year-old processes the volatile equal rights movement of the late '60s and early '70s when I was growing up. I was definitely aware, just misguided.
To this day, I can't help but laugh at my little confused self for thinking such a thing.
That's very funny, Best!
Of her non-kid roles, I really like the films, That Hagen Girl, with Ronald Reagan, and Honeymoon, with Guy Madison and Franchot Tone.

I may get shot for this, but I have never actually seen a Shirley Temple movie.

If American cinema was to have an iconic figure about all iconic figures, it would be Shirley Temple.
She is more iconic then Crawford, Davis, Astaire, Bergman, Hepburn, Nicolson, Streep et al. Just one little curly-hair six year old girl beats them all hands down.
I have many MANY happy childhood memories because of this lady. For that I will be forever grateful and happy, and I can only hope one day I have children (God willing), they experience the joy I had with this curly hair moppett.
I completely agree.

Louise Brooks wrote in all seriousness about Shirley Temple, "What a tough little slut she was."
And what was that supposed to mean?
Was she drunk at the time? It's not like they traveled in the same circles ever. Temple was 8 years old and the biggest star in the world when Brook's career was over. It wreaks of either jealousy or misinformation.
I have been inside her 'Depression Glass Playhouse", which was a gift to her from Twentieth Century Fox for saving the studio.
b12b, something similar. I was crushed to find out that Shirley Temple was an adult and was no longer a child when I was younger and watched her movies!
Ouchee! Ouchee! OUCHEE!
I wonder if she had the same reaction Lauren Becall had on The Sopranos.
