I was just surfing around and saw that the old "Isis" Saturday morning TV series is out on DVD. The complete show! And it's cheap too.
Any other favorite "obscure" shows or films you have come across lately that are out on DVD?
I just thought I'd share.

Here's another. Voyagers! with John Eric Hexum.
I watched that one all the time... for obvious reasons.

I saw a new DVD purporting to be Orson Welles' film of DON QUIXOTE this weekend. I'm going to preview it via netflix. What on earth is Patty McCormack doing in it?

Many people don't know it exists, and I saw two copies at B&N (Lincoln Square). Out of print: the PBS ROYAL FAMILY (I'm a happy owner of a copy, but it's hard to get a new one, likewise FIFTH OF JULYT

Posted: 8/25/08 at 11:11amJust last night I checked to see if Here Comes The Brides had more than the one set out and saw that there's an Ultimate Petticoat Junction set released. I had no idea. I'm a little leery about getting it, though. One of the reviews mentioned a poor quality transfer.

I'm still waiting for the movie to come out, Auggie (with Ronstadt, Kline & Lansbury). I may be one of the only people who genuinely liked that movie! A lot, actually.

I loved Isis and Shazam!! There was another one around the same time about a family traveling in a big futuristic caravan vehicle. They were scientific researchers or archeologists or something.
And for anyone who enjoys dance, the Parsons Dance Company DVD is a MUST. It must be out of print as it is incredibly expensive on Amazon, but you can still rent it at Netflix: http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Parsons_Dance_Company/70016036?trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=492772703_0_0

Not as exciting as the others, but I had no idea Little Voice was on DVD, I thought it hadn't made the transfer yet.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was released yesterday on Blu-ray. Word is that it is a good transfer that will not disappoint. Looking forward to mine.
On the other hand, the transfer of Kiss of the Spider Woman to Blu-ray was a disappointment. The film deserves better.
I know, that doesn't really address your post.

Krissy-
The transfer is ok on regulard DVD (I don't have Blu-Ray) but it's only got 1 new feature, which, while it was neat to see the Haunted Mansion Christmas, it wasn't worth the re-up.
There wasn't a booklet even.

According to High Def Digest, the Blu-ray only has this special feature:
"Introduction by Tim Burton (HD, 18 sec.) – Located on the disc only by selecting "Play" from the main menu, this is an extremely short introduction in which Burton makes note of how "incredible" he finds the Blu-ray edition. It lasts all of 18 seconds.
That's it for exclusive material. "
However it also says:
"The movie retains its 1.66:1 aspect ratio with small pillarbox bars on the sides of the 16:9 frame. The picture is incredibly sharp and vivid, revealing a world of detail never before seen on home video. It feels like you've been placed inches away from the puppets to bask in the complexity of their design and execution. The movie's style revels in darkness, and the transfer's contrast range is expertly rendered with deep black levels and plenty of shadow detail, clearly delineating the black of Jack's clothing from the night around him. Brighter parts of the frame are handled just as well. The candy colors of Christmas Town and the garish neon and black light of Oogie Boogie's lair leap off the screen with surreal vibrancy."

Wow...that's shocking that that's the only feature for Blu-Ray, considering how much Disney is hyping what they can (and will) do with it.
ETA:
Ok, so apparently my neices decided to change my TV settings last week when they were here, so my colors were off...the transfer is terrific.
