One of my favorite features of hybrid vehicles--they are quiet--apparently makes them demonstrably more lethal to pedestrians and cyclists.
The Government--it's enough to make me vote for the Tea Party--has responded by creating minimum noise-level requirements for cars.
I blame pedestrians and cyclists who are oblivious to their surroundings, not noiseless cars.

Part of being aware of our surroundings entails using our sense of hearing. Unfortunately we don't have the 350 degree vision (or genital size
) of horses, so we need to rely on more than our eyesight to travel safety.
