One of my favorite features of hybrid vehicles--they are quiet--apparently makes them demonstrably more lethal to pedestrians and cyclists.

The Government--it's enough to make me vote for the Tea Party--has responded by creating minimum noise-level requirements for cars.

I blame pedestrians and cyclists who are oblivious to their surroundings, not noiseless cars.

Part of being aware of our surroundings entails using our sense of hearing. Unfortunately we don't have the 350 degree vision (or genital size Silence equals....death?) of horses, so we need to rely on more than our eyesight to travel safety.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Maybe they should pull their ear buds out.

Blind people have been saying this since hybrids were introduced and therefore I don't think a minimum noise level is a bad idea. The tea party platform, however, is.

I guess I'm going to have to concede on this one. I've been bitching about it all afternoon and I keep running up against the "blind people" argument..>sigh<...

Fine. But I want mine programmed to play show tunes. Alert the blind: When you hear Merman, jump back up on the curb!

Un-PC: blind, deaf, dumb, Maxwell or McKean -- if you can't notice a car is about to hit ya cuz it is quiet, you are more disabled than you're letting on.
