"So, when Criteria EVENTUALLY releases it on DVD/BLU-RAY will both versions be available or just one? I like Carl Davis score but I REALLY Love Carmine's.I wish an expanded complete soundtrack would be released to Coppola's."

I doubt it's gonna happen either way. Alas.

I still dream of seeing Napoleon...

Re new scores, I actually also really loved Air's trippy score to the restored A Trip to the Moon which tried to restore the original hand coloured element too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw3h-JrsRWg

I find that I can't make it through the entireity of most silent movies. I didn't have that problem with The Artist, but I think it was the combination of modern sensibility and old school that kept me invested. I loved it. I like the really really old talkies, but I just generally can't make it through an entire silent film.

I do like to catch the silents on TCM even if I don't watch the whole things. It's fascinating to watch people on film from almost or even over a hundred years ago.

I did watch the entire Lillian Gish "Scarlet Letter" last time it was on, which I thought was pretty good.

It's been a couple years but at one time Napoleon was the #1 most requested film people wanted to see Criteria put out. It must have something to do with who owns the rights because with it being in such demand I can't imagine it not being released yet.

Roscoe, do you think they would ever do an east coast showing of Napoleon like they did last March at the Paramount? Boston or New York is a must!

With NAPOLEON I'd imagine it is largely a rights issue among the assorted archives and so on. I can't imagine it is purely a matter of demand -- I think more people want to see NAPOLEON than want to see something like DIE NIBELUNGEN or J'ACCUSE, to name two big old silent classics that have gotten gorgeous home video releases.

I'd love for them to do NAPOLEON in NYC, but I'm sure the costs would be outrageous. This is the kind of thing where someone with serious Spielberg level money should do some shelling out for the good of the movie-going world.
