Posted: 11/8/04 at 12:37pmWhy in the world are they ending so soon? It hasn't even gotten close to be tired or old. Each season gets more intriguing. This really bites! It's as if all the producers got together and decided that all the best shows need to be cancelled because too many people watch them. Thank God for Arrested Development and Amazing Race!

Posted: 11/8/04 at 12:41pmWell, apparently the last episode kills any possibility of the show continuing, according to Alan Ball. And HBO tend to kill off the vast majority of their shows after a relatively small number of seasons, don't they? In one way, I guess it's good as it will go out on high unlike other long running shows that ran TOO long, but on the other hand, it's bad because this is one of the best shows on television.

This is probably my very favorite show on tv--and I watch entirely too much tv--so I was bummed to hear this. BUT...five seasons isn't too short for HBO (SATC had 6) and I suppose it's better to go out on top. I liked this last season, but many thought it got really out there and almost soap-y. Still, I hate to think there will only be 13 more episodes EVER.
Peter Krause is walking sex. Period. Shazamm.

Posted: 11/8/04 at 1:18pm12, actually. Seasons 1-3 were 13 episodes, but seasons 4 and 5 are only 12. I have no idea why.

Oh that's sad. 12 is a gyp

Posted: 11/8/04 at 1:23pmIt will be missed but I agree I would rather go out when its still fresh rather than it lingering until we want it put out of its misery

Totally. I mean, after having Lisa's brother-in-law all but admit her murder and blow his brains out in front of Nate, George going bat-sh1t nutballs with his bomb shelter, Claire turning into a major druggie, Keith sleeping with a woman, etc. etc.....they are having to do more and more bizarre things and it will eventually go stale.
When do you guys think the show jumped the shark? (If you think it has done so already.) As much as I LOVE the show, David's carjacking seriously scarred me. I'm not sure I needed to see that.

Posted: 11/8/04 at 1:45pmI was beside myself when David got carjacked, I have to say. And it traumatised me when the carjacker turned up in Garden State. But I think season 4 was its strongest by far and while yes, when you list the events in the way you did it sounds ridiculous, but the way it was written, acted and directed made it seem perfectly believable.

Posted: 11/8/04 at 1:47pmJust my luck. I just got cable this weekend and added HBO for 6 feet under... Well, at least I will have 1 more season ...

BT, if you get on demand you can at least catch up on some old episodes!
Pop Culture Boy,you're right...I mean, it IS a lot of crazy stuff to happen in one family, but I agree that the execution of it is always so good--the writing and acting are probably the best on television.

They should have the final season have 14 episodes to make up for time.
I'm so sad as well...practically all good TV will be gone, and there's so much more that can be done with the Fishers/Chenowiths/Diaz families.
Keith didn't just sleep with a woman, he slept with barely legal Dawnie from Buffy. That traumatized me more than anything.

Posted: 11/8/04 at 2:27pmAt least she came on to him, though. Otherwise it would have been infinitely more traumatising.

I wouldn;t say that it jumped the shark, but I think it has gotten a little bit soap-opera like and strayed from the first couple seasons....I know the stories and characters develop and need to -- but it seems to have lost some of it's edge....
As an example -- as sick as they were, they were very funny and created the dark humor to the episodes...
Regardless, I will miss the Fischers and look forward to seeing how Ball ends it....
