So what are favorite vocal... umm expressions? (slurs, bends, growls, etc)...

Curious what everyones favorite vocal expressions are... to listen to, do, etc. i'm not sure if what to label these types of things, but I feel it's just a way for everyone to express themselves and make a song more individual (rather than just sing the notes).

So what kinda stuff do you like...? Growls, slurs, bends, vibrato, riffs, trills, i dunno... there are more kinda things too, I just dunno any others or at least not names for them lol.

So yea, lets here what some people think.

I personally love different riffs that flow seemlessly, that sound of control and smoothness I love. I also really like when people sing with like a growl, especially because I have no idea how to do it (anyone know how, I wanna learn! lol). Those are my two favorites personally... how bout you??

And of course, I think you gotta keep these type of things to somewhat of a minimum, too much of this kinda thing just gets annoying at times... or if you aren't any good at it, it also sounds just bad.

So...now I'll leave it to everyone else to share opinions.

I'm just trying to get some opinions,s tart a discussion or convo or what not.

Can you think of a better word for what you would categorize those types of things a singer does that makes them unique and individual and sings that way to express themselves, more so than just singing the regular notes with nothing else.

I'm sorry if you think I'm high and seems you think the question is stupid, but you could have given some explaination, since to me this isn't that crazy of a damn question.

My favorite ummmm vocal expression is when the guy goes, "Oh, gahh, oh, yes Namo, YES, DON'T STOP NAMO, DON'T STOP, RIGHT, UH, UHHH, UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."

lol.... and sure, could call it showboating always, although I don't think that's a good word for it since it's not always showing off, or at least I don't think so.

I love it when cetain singers slide up to notes. depending on the song, it can make it sound really eerie. I also love growls. In fact, Tori Amos covered the song "Losing My Religion" and she slid up to notes and started to scream (growl) on a verse, it is sooo scary and creepy, but it is a gem. fast forward to 2min. 20sec. You will be blown away. I also had no idea she could sing likethis until I heard it. I GET CHILLS LIKE CRAZY!!!!

OK, and I love it when singers put rasp in there voice, especially when Bjork does it. It is so original, but I don't know how they do it withough damaging their voice.

Anyway, you all need to listen to the link I posted, it is VERY good, you have no idea. It is one of those things that you are happy after you did it. PLEASE!!!! My goal in life is to introduce poeple to Tori Amos, and this is a good start for ya all.

I LOVE KATE BUSH!!!! I may only be 14, but my mother knows good music and raised me around it. Kate is older than Tori, so of course i know who she is. I love her music. I think Hound Of Love is my fave album of hers.
