So, Did Blu-Ray Win The War?

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray.

I went to Blockbuster last night and noticed they are now renting Blu-Ray dvd's. This is pretty big. I kind of thought they would hold out a little longer but if Blockbuster is backing Blu-Ray is it safe to say the studios are behind them instead of HD-dvd?

We still have a laser disc player in our basement. We have maybe 100 or so laser discs which look like record albums. We've come along way!

I don't think they "won the war", but they are in more households as a result of the PS3 coming stock with a BluRay player.

Blockbuster having BluRay doesn't mean a thing for me as I don't shop at Blockbuster. I still say having a combo unit is the way to go as both formats are quite spectacular.

Ah, yes. I finally got rid of my laserdisc collection. I did however hang on to my Criterion Collection copy of Halloween simply for sentimental reasons. re: So, Did Blu-Ray Win The War?

Didn't the porn industry endorse HD? I thought that was the deciding "vote".

Personally, based on nothing, I don't think either will ever take off. Are the masses really clamoring for a new format? I think most people are pretty content with standard dvd.

While people may be content with standard DVD, in 2009 everything is going HD in terms of broadcast. You won't be able to watch an existing television without buying an adapter.

At that point the glaring quality definition between high def and standard definition while become apparent to your average joe and people we want an improved quality on their DVDs.

These are of course the people who actually pay for entertainment rather than illegally downloading fuzzy copies of screeners. re: So, Did Blu-Ray Win The War?

Those poor suckers who bought HD. It is all a big scam.

I got suckered with the RCA Video disc system years back & vowed never again. When HD broadcast rolls around, will get an HD TV for the living room & an adaptor for our one in the bedroom.

All those little portables ( small screens) will have to be tossed & guess what gang you will have to buy new ones. Barnum was right - there is a sucker born every minute

How long before HD is forced aside for Super Ultra HD where you can see the blood flowing thru a body?
