So I'm headed into NYC in a few weeks and have a free slot, so am going to see Elaine Stritch at the Carlyle. Since I"m solo, they won't reserve a table for me, so I'm going to sit at the bar. Does anyone have a suggested time to arrive? The Carlyle suggested 630pm but this seems at tad extreme for an 845 curtain. I just can't imagine sitting at a bar alone for over 2 hours with no entertainment. Has anyone seen a show at the Carlyle from the bar? Will it be even worth it or am I better of seeing a Broadway show instead?
The bar at the Carlyle actually gives you a great view! Get there early, settle in, be prepared to spend a little money. Cheap, it ain't, but seeing Stritch there is something you'll remember forever! Splurge.
Between people watching and getting a little tipsy, the time will fly.
And then you'll see Stritch in an intimate, elegant setting.
The one time I went, we were similarly told to get there at 6:30 for an 8:00 show--and we were alone till 7:30. Obviously they want you there as early as possible so that you'll spend more.
On the other hand, I wasn't seeing Stritch, and she'll doubtless be more of a draw.
It's not that large a room (which is a good thing), so the bar seats are just fine.
Have fun!
Thanks you two! You're a couple of swells!
I've always wanted to treat myself to a show there but whenever I'm in town it's always Ute Lemper. Every time.
So imagine my surprise when I checked and saw that Stritch would be there for this trip. Thanks for the tips.
