Hi everybody. My school just announced today that one of our fall musicals this year is going to be Songs for a New World. Auditions are on Monday (yikes!) and no experience or knowledge of the show is necessary, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me some stuff about the show. I know that it is a very small cast Also, what would be an appropriate audition song for a female for this show? Once again, I'm very sorry for asking so late in the game, but I just found out that we're doing this show today, so I don't really have that much time to work this out. Arggg.......anyway, if anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it :)

What's your vocal range?
This is a four-person musical revue pretty much about journeys. The score is amazing.

Typically I'm a soprano, high A being my top note on a bad day, high C on an average day. I'm really not at all certain of my bottom note, but I have sung mezzo and alto in choirs in the past if that is any help. Sorry I can't be more specific.
there's a few songs that would be great for you to sing. Are you supposed to sing from the show? If so, I'd sing "I'm Not Afraid of Anything" OR "Stars and the Moon". They are gorgeous ballads that really show off a stong mix and headvoice sound.
BREAK A LEG! you are quite lucky!

Are you at NYU? Gallatin is doing SFANW this fall. It's a fabulous show with a gorgeous score. Break a leg!
If you can sing a song from the show, and are willing to go for a song that most people will shy away from, go for 'Just One Step.' If you can pull off a NY accent (or have one) all the better. You could also try 'Christmas Lullaby,' which is quite the ballad. If you can't audition from the musical, go for 'climbing uphill' from the last five years, which has tons of different styles in it, that make it easy for any auditioner to see your style, range, tone and ability to hold a character.
GOOD LUCK!
