So I'm aware that most schools have you prepare a song for the first week of classes as sort of a placement, type deal (I really think it's just for nerve racking torture, myself). Do the rules for auditions still apply? Meaning, I really would like to show the staff a little bit about myself and sing either something by my favorite composer (Frank Wildhorn) or from my favorite musical (Company) while still showing myself off. I'm obviously not going to be doing This is the Moment of Being Alive, seeing as they would be some of the most obvious choices (not to mention they're both a half step out of my comfort range), but is the placement process a little more lax in that area?
Ever heard My Favorite Year? There's a great song in it called Larger Than Life. If you're interested in it, lemme know. I have the recording and can find the score online.
Good for baritones, especially those about the age of a freshman in college. Most people don't know it, but the story draws the audience in. And it's a kinda feel good song.
