I'm trying to come up with a list of love/flirting/i-wanna-hook-up-with-you songs from the 60s--they don't have to be ballads (altho ballads are ok), and not break-up songs...
examples of what I'm lookin for -
Do You Wanna Dance? - Beach Boys
I Wanna Hold Your Hand - Beatles
Cant Take My Eyes Off You - 4 Seasons
I'm drawing a big ole blank, so any & all suggestions would be appreciated.
Muchos gracias.

"i knew the supremes had a few good ones!"
Problem with the Supremes is that so much of their stuff tends to the negative.
"reflections of the way we used to be"
"someday we'll be together"
"all you do is treat me bad"
"stop in the name of love, before you break my heart"
"love child, never meant to be"

Oh I like a lot of the Supremes songs. They were very catchy even if they did tend toward a negative sentiment.
"How can Mary tell me what do, when she lost her love so true? And Flo, she don't know..."
Love Child was really an interesting song way ahead of its time and a leap from the Supremes genre.

heehee....Flo, she dont know....one of my favorite lyrics ever (altho, in a so bad it's good sort of way).
i agree with what said about Love Child being ahead of it's time, etc. Certainly not what you'd think Diana Ross's next #1 hit would be. I lump that one with Elvis' "In the Ghetto" as just...different for each of the singers. Altho, i LOOOOVE the back-up singer on In the Ghetto. she's fierce....and then I love Cartman's take on it as well

I thought I was an alto, not an altho.
Can't Take My Eyes Off You works great for a love song. I think it's a beautiful song.

Baby, Baby Don't Cry (Smokey Robinson)
...all you gotta do
is dry your eyes
long enough to see
that you have got the love
you thought you had in him
here in me...

Agreed about Carole King. Her "Will You Still Love Me..." hits right at the heart. Her mediocre vocals brought the song down to a human level, the poetry of the lyrics illustrates the potential sadness in the future, and the music is simple yet forlorn.
Also, don't forget Simon & Garfunkel:
I've got no deeds to do, no promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me

Goth, are we long-lost soulmates? you're naming all my favorites. Simon & Garfunkel? Please. Only the greatest duo ever! I think that Kathy's Song is simply beautiful and Bookends, so short & sweet & perfect. Not to mention, of course Bridge Over Toubled Water & Homeward Bound...
Interesting point about Carole King's mediocre vocals. Never thought of it that way.
