OK...so my voice teacher has themed recitals every spring and the upcoming recital's theme is songs that tell a story...
A lot of the boys are having trouble finding songs that qualify...anyone have ideas???

Gesticulate from Kismet is the very essence of that, telling stories.

does it matter if it's first or third person?
Well, firstly it should work well completely out of context, which I don't really think Sad Tale of the Beauxhommes does, it should also be a solo, and it doesn't matter if its in first or third person.
I'd also really need songs for guys more than girls...
OH and not too too hard. Like, Myths and Hymns is pretty much out of the question for the boys at my studio.

oh
lol. becuase i was just about to write "elegies" as well, so that kills that idea.
the night that goldman spoke at union square from ragtime is perfect for a guy
also- the phone call from Lucky Stiff
Perhaps 'Race You To The Top Of The Morning' from 'The Secret Garden'. Perfect musical bedtime story for me, especially the way Anthony Warlow and/Philip Quast sing it. :3 Philip Quast sang an amusing one about the Emperor's New Clothes when he did Live at the Donmar. 'The King's New Clothes' by Frank Loesser. Could be worth hunting down!
God Philip Quast is so sexy... *melts*
In fact, Frank Loesser appears to have done a few like that for a 1952 musical movie called 'Hans Christian Andersen'.

You should totally look into this!
Mellisade from 110 in the Shade
Do they have to be musical theatre songs?
No not necessarily.

what about "giants in the sky" from into the woods? it's not that hard...kind of high...but it can always be lowered.
