Soprano Ballad
#1Soprano Ballad
Posted: 7/29/07 at 12:19pmI'm starting my college auditions soon, but I don't have a ballad yet! My back up ballad is So in Love from Kiss Me, Kate...but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any other (less overdone) ballads. I'm a soprano, but I have a huge range so anything you can suggest would be really helpful!

Whenever I hear "soprano" my immediate instinct is to recommend Light in the Piazza. It has amazing ballads like "Dividing Day" (lower) and the title song.
However, it may be a little too recent.

'Till There was You- The Music Man
it's probably slightly overdone, but it's my personal favorite.

You could also look at "My Brother Lived in San Francisco" from "Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens". It's a beautiful song; doesn't have the greatest range but it's a gorgeous ballad, with a wonderful chance to act. Range on that song is C4 to Db5. You can find an amazing performance of it on the site that must not be mentioned. Also, though it's over-done you could look at "How Could I Ever Know" from The Secret Garden. The range on that song is much more significant; Bb3 to Ab5 I believe. I may be off on the high note but I believe that's correct. Good luck!
Cheers,
Christopher
