Southern Decadance

Have any of you been? I'm thinking of going next year, afer I get back in shape... and I want to know what to expect. (besides the explicit information)

re: Southern Decadance

It is very crowded and, more often than not, extremely hot. I hope you already have hotel reservations. Those are the negatives. The positives: It is a mini-Mardi Gras and a great deal of fun. You will meet people from all over. If you've never been to New Orleans, pm me if you want and I can tell you several places to eat and things to do in and out of the Vieux Carre.

re: Southern Decadance

Nawlins is a great city but you have to know where to go to avoid the tourist traps.

Caroline is very correct about that. Do NOT eat anywhere on Bourbon Street.

re: Southern Decadance

and skip the very fancy restaurants like Court of Two Sisters- its over-rated, over-prices and there are better, cheaper alternatives

I've seen videos taken at SD and they are quite amazing.

don't forget to NOT go to Starbucks! go to Royal Blend or PJs. also, for seafood (real, not fancy stuff) go into Metarie for Sals where the dumps the crawfish right on your table

Caroline knows what she's talking about. Anybody who know Metarie is OK by me.

re: Southern Decadance

Thanks guys. I really can't wait... If we had the money and time, we'd go this year, but we're waiting until next.

re: Southern Decadance

I have to admit, despite my numerous trips into New Orleans, I can never help but go to Cafe DuMonde at some point.
#14

re: Southern Decadance

I love Cafe DuMonde! Yummy and great for people-watching. K Paul's has gotten a little froo-froo, but still has the best gumbo I've ever tasted (and I'm not a gumbo fan). Breakfast at Brennan's is overpriced and overrated. My favorite restaurant has been Palace Cafe (owned by the Brennans). Excellent food and service and moderately priced. If you have time, you must go the aquarium. Simply the best aquarium I've ever seen outside the Monterrey aquarium in California.

re: Southern Decadance

Caroline and NMartin--what's the name of the great greasy spoon luncheonette in the French Quarter near the gay bars that has the hysterically funny counter guys? I remember a big black queen at the counter and a skinny little white kid at the griddle. They had me laughing so hard I could barely eat my pancakes or flapjacks or whatever they're called in New Orleans.

Something like the Clover Grill? With all the gourmet food we had when we were there, that was our favorite meal.

re: Southern Decadance

there's Camillia (sp) Grill, its not in the french quarter though. it is in a white, greek style building. no tables, just one bar... its in the garden district near Lee Circle

re: Southern Decadance

I went a couple years ago. I had a blast! Well, at least I am assuming I did as I really don't recall too much about the entire time we were in New Orleans.

You definitely have your priorities in order.

Christ, is it any wonder so many of us want to secede from this herd mentality?

I feel just as I did before I posted that. Disappointed that people don't want something else.

re: Southern Decadance

So what if I want to look good, and it just happens to be for Southern Decadence. I think it's stupid you created a thread just to pinpoint how low you can get.

And getting in shape isn't just for Southern Decadence.. it's so I can be happy with myself. Get my self-esteem back up. You people should've seen me in high school.
