Posted: 4/18/05 at 9:57amFor Christmas I was given a certificate for a massage and a Swedish massage. Haven't had either yet. Anyone know the difference between the two?

Of the two, swedish is more "relaxing" concentrating on using long strokes to detense muscles. Shiatsu relies more on pressure points, and really works to get rid of knots and "trouble spots" you may be having. You feel the effects more the day after as well (I compare it to being beaten with a baseball bat). It sounds worse than it is...

Thanks, Cookie - that helps.
I feel like someone should at least be buying me a drink beforehand!

It is recommended that you do massage in the buff, as the oils and the lotions could get on your unmentionables. But you're not splayed nekkid for all to see. Your nether regions are covered by a towel, and when you're asked to turn over, the masseuse will lift the towel for you and turn away as you turn.
The most important aspect is that you're comfortable. So if you're not comfortable being in the buff then you should keep them on, and mention that to your masseuse.
If it's your first time getting a massage, it's only natural that you feel self conscious. But ultimately, you'll get over that, and concentrate on relaxing....
hope you enjoy it!

No spa week for us... but I love getting a good massage. If/when you all come I'll have to take you to some of my faves...
