Is anyone participating in Spa Week?

I'm trying to decide if I should sign up for something.

For Christmas I was given a certificate for a massage and a Swedish massage. Haven't had either yet. Anyone know the difference between the two?

Bluemoon: Basic massage is broken down into two categories: swedish or deep tissue (shiatsu). Of the two, swedish is more "relaxing" concentrating on using long strokes to detense muscles. Shiatsu relies more on pressure points, and really works to get rid of knots and "trouble spots" you may be having. You feel the effects more the day after as well (I compare it to being beaten with a baseball bat). It sounds worse than it is...

Thanks, Cookie - that helps.

I feel like someone should at least be buying me a drink beforehand!

oh, no drinking beforehand! The last thing you need is to need to pee while in the middle of a massage! You're supposed to be relaxing, instead of tensing up!

It is recommended that you do massage in the buff, as the oils and the lotions could get on your unmentionables. But you're not splayed nekkid for all to see. Your nether regions are covered by a towel, and when you're asked to turn over, the masseuse will lift the towel for you and turn away as you turn.

The most important aspect is that you're comfortable. So if you're not comfortable being in the buff then you should keep them on, and mention that to your masseuse.

If it's your first time getting a massage, it's only natural that you feel self conscious. But ultimately, you'll get over that, and concentrate on relaxing....

hope you enjoy it!

hot lava stone massage = a variation on shiatsu using the rocks to hit the pressure points in addition to using the heat from the rocks to get to the muscles.

No spa week for us... but I love getting a good massage. If/when you all come I'll have to take you to some of my faves...

lava stone massage. It helps with the pressure points, and helps dig the heat into your muscles....
