Believe it or not Elphaba, a lot of grown-ups are on there, too - me included - but we're definitely in the minority and tend to actually know the people on our friends list.
(Although the number of people on my friends list is getting awfully high...comes from doing all those damn plays, I guess! LOL)

I think it can be creepy, but in my case, I have two pages. One is for my band (which is a separate MySpace Music page), which is really great, 'cause it includes a jukebox so people can check out your stuff, download songs (if you choose to allow them to do so), etc. It's driven a lot of traffic to our official site. The other is my personal page, which is very much like Friendster used to be, but I think it's set up much better. (It has a lot more features, etc.) And, interestingly enough, I've been contacted for a few gigs and auditions through that page, and even booked an indie film that way.
So, I guess it depends on why you have a MySpace. Some people are celebrities looking to connect with their fans (NOT me, I mean real celebrities), others are fans making a tribute page to their favorite artists, some are looking to date, some to make friends in a new city, some are creeps who just want cyber-sex. There's a great variety. It's a lot like life. ![]()

MySpace isn't creepy...just some of the people are, but you can find them most anywhere. (I'm not one of them, rest assured...)
Since I'm new here, why not?

This idea that there is something inherently wrong with sites like myspace bothers me.
It is what you do that should be a problem. Using the site to engage in predatory behavior, not simply being a part of the site.
The attitude people seem to have toward these sites seems to be intentionally ignorant.

Posted: 4/8/06 at 5:50pmHas anyone actually made a friend strictly through MySpace? It seems that people either add those they're already friends with in "real life" or on message boards and the like, or people add strangers as "friends" on their MySpace profile but never actually make an effort to get to know them.

Posted: 4/8/06 at 6:28pmI guess it's not disturbing if you are responsible and use common sense whilst being a member. Just not my cup of tea.

Exactly. I have several friends of mine on myspace, as well as having met some great people. Not all of them live in my area, but they are just cool people to IM with.
Guess what? This place gets monitored also. Most sited with Public Boards do. So don't think you can't find creep people on here.

I'm sure that's true in a lot of cases, but yes, I actually have made a few friends on MySpace that contacted me out of the blue and were complete strangers before that time. One is a gentleman from Hawaii who loves to support the arts (so much so, that he sent me $100 for the WCE Raffle I was fundraising for), another is a composer from Tennessee, one's a struggling actor from the San Diego area, a couple are just women from the midwest who are very nice and wanted a pen pal...
But you are correct in that the vast majority of my MySpace friends are folks I already knew from either real life or some sort of online community.

My parents banned me from MySpace and Xanga, not that I couldn't go on it anyways, but I'd rather not have my application towards a job or college be turned down just because I post stuff on myspace.

Yeah you are probably right but I can't remember the last news story that I heard that said "so and so was arrested today for soliciting some child on BWW." I did, however, hear another My Space story only yesterday.
I'm not saying that it's not a great place to meet people, only that some people need to be a bit more responsible with the information that they give up so freely. I think that Dateline is now up to its third episode on sexual predators on the internet, and almost all of them have been caught trying to find their conquest on My Space.

I know pretty much everyone on my myspace. I went to high school with them or did some sort of community theater. People who I met through here and through the other site I post on. Also people whi I will be going to school with next year! Its easier than E-mail for me, easy way to keep in contact with friends who i dont see much.
So my myspace it at www.myspace.com/qiswuphu
Send me a message saying you are from here, or chances are you wont get added. I do like to talk to the people on my myspace so, if you are my friend you'll probably hear from me!

yea, i've met a few friends through the site... including someone who sadly is now an ex. but i don't have any regrets using it. i really think it's a great place to meet people all over. plus people i haven't seen in years are on there too, so i was able to reconnect with them.
and mine is www.myspace.com/zepka102... i'm sure it doesn't take a brainiac to figure out my address :-P

Just be careful with dealing with older people if you are underage.
And don't be stupid and give outrageously personal information.
