I hate German... hence why I'm taking French next year. I really wish they had Italian, it's really hard to learn it on your own. I've been learning it on my own for two years and I can't retain any of it.

we had to speak all German in third year - at that point, nobody cared, so we would say:
"Wie sagen, 'I didn't do my homework, and can I go out and get a drink of water now' auf Deutsch"? Our teacher would actually tell us how to say all of that... she never caught on.
Ich hatte Deutsch in Gymnasium und Universitat studieren. Ich hatte in Deutschland gewohnen. Jedes zwei oder drei Jahre fahre Ich nach Bayern. Ja, Ich spreche sehr gut Deutsch.

(my strongest memory from German class was a sentence badly butchered by a couple of students... they answered a question with "Sie bügelt ihn weil er warm ist." If I remember correctly, it translates as "She irons him until he becomes gay.")
I love the language, took it for two and a half years of college, but now all that's left is a mish-mash of german, french and greek (all languages I sort'a learned but never followed through with)
