A true giant in the field and tremendous loss for movie lovers.

Oh, what a shame. I'm very sorry to read of this. His fine work will be missed.

I'll never forget the feeling I had seeing Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park in the theatre. I knew I was seeing something new and different. Stan was truly a brilliant artist.

re: Stan Winston, dead at 62

Oh, wow. I'm kinda devastated.

One of the highlights of my career working on DVDs was to be the menu designer and producer of the Stan Winston Creature Feature DVDs.

Not works of art, by any means, and in fact they were a bonanza of D-list remakes of B movies... BUT... the experience allowed me to meet the legendary Stan, and be taken on a personal tour of his "creature studio" in Van Nuys.

I seriously felt like I had won a Golden Ticket and was being led around with my client and another designer through the "chocolate factory" by Wonka himself. I don't think I will ever forget it. You can see this incredible facility behind Stan in that photo on the link.

Room after room of designers and creators... all working away on their latest projects. Showing us the intricacies and the inner-workings as we came across them. I came face to face with the Terminator, the Alien, the gigantic, life-size T-Rex from Jurassic Park... an endless parade of jaw-dropping iconic encounters.

Stan was the nicest man you could ever know. Deeply passionate and filled with enthusiasm over each and every creation. I feel privileged to have met him, to have spent the afternoon with him... and to have collaborated for a few weeks with him on those (kinda silly) Creature Feature DVDs.

I think I need time to process this.

re: Stan Winston, dead at 62

I had a fun chat with Stan at a Chicago Comicon about seven years ago. Nothing too deep, just talking about our favorite scenes from the old Sinbad movies. One of those guys that seemed like he'd enjoy talking about his favorite movies with anyone, you know?

He'll be missed greatly. I'm glad to have gotten to meet him that once and say 'thanks.'
