Oh, she played the girl who accuses Boo Radley. That was a deeply disturbing performance.
Whatever happened to the actress who played Scout?

I seriously hated her (the character) when I first saw the film. She was so dirty and "white trashy." I knew that this was an actress, but there was something so natural and truthful about her performance in this movie. It disturbed me for years, and I really think that she is a primary reason for the dramatic stakes being set so high in the film. We need to see just how pathetic and hateful she is. How frightened and how frightening. A victim and a criminal, all in one.
Brilliant work.
It was only years later that I saw her in a Twilight Zone, plus a few other things, that I realized how good of an actress she really was.
She was nothing like Mayella Ewell in real life. But she certainly made her mark in that movie. Wow.

PJ, Mary Badham ("Scout") is around, here and there. She gives on-camera interviews all the time.
She shows up at conventions, etc., and tours the country for Mockingbird events.
I had no idea until just a few years ago that she is the younger sister of John Badham, who directed the films "Saturday Night Fever" and "WarGames."
I also didn't realize that Robert Mulligan, the director of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is the brother of "Richard Mulligan" (Soap, Empty Nest).

I just watched "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and saw Ms. Wilcox in the party scene. She was absolutely fabulous in Mockingbird and often wondered why we hadn't seen more of her in other projects. A first-class actress indeed!
btw - her character didn't accuse Boo Radley of anything. Mayella accused Tom Robinson of rape - at the instigation of her father.
