Starbucks

When I was in Puerto Rico, I saw one Starbucks the entire time. I think that may disqualify it from being American, but it sure was a nice change from the one we've got on every corner here.
On the other hand, Starbucks uses a fair trade system so that the third world coffee farmers aren't cheated and they can make enough money off their coffee farming to support themselves. So I have a hard time hating Starbucks, even though they're taking over the world.

re: Starbucks#28
Posted: 7/27/04 at 12:44pmThat reminds me of The Simpsons when Bart goes in to do something at a store (I'm not really sure what) but then the owner says "You'd better make it quick kid, in ten minutes this place is turning into a Starbucks" then they pan out to show the entire mall is just two stories of Starbucks.
re: Starbucks#29
Posted: 7/27/04 at 12:48pmWe have at least three Starbucks' in one of the malls around here alone. An entire mall of them is not that far-fetched, sadly.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 12:50pmI am truly not a coffee person. But drinking Starbucks makes you feel better than everyone else and that is what I stive for. So instead of ordering coffee I order the Starbucks version of a vanilla milkshake...Vanilla Cream Frappucino. Excellent.

get this.
The rathole town I am from JUST opened up the FIRST starbucks here. It used to be about a 45 minute - hour drive to find one. Not anymore. And they have been VERY busy since they opened.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 12:51pmColdstones are opening up all over the place also. I live in Milwaukee in the summer months and they are popping up and selling out everywhere.

re: Starbucks#35
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:03pmColdstone scares me almost as much as Six Flags guy. They spend five minutes preparing your ice cream and then they sing. I don't want my ice cream server to sing. Unless Raul Esparza was serving me ice cream.

re: Starbucks#37
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:07pmThey sing every time someone puts money in the tip jar. They ALL sing. In unison. Some scary song.

Mmmm...
Coldstone...
Is it just in my state, or is there ALWAYS a Cosi right by a Coldstone?
I know at least 3 instances of this.
I think it's a conspiracy.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 4:15pmStarbucks is everywhere...and has nice seats. Does anyone else find that a lot of their beans come out too acidic? Any fans of Cosi coffee?
re: Starbucks#44
Posted: 7/27/04 at 6:26pmStarbucks is training people to believe that the taste of burnt coffee beans means it's good coffee. I have a bumpersticker that someone gave me that reads: "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks!"

Posted: 7/27/04 at 7:31pmRight on SNAFU! Those who don't know beans about quality coffee are receiving a miseducation by Starbucks. Coffee actually has a very interesting history and there are many differnet tastes and variables that go into producing the taste. Just as many people have learned to enjoy tasting fine wine, so too should people enjoy the taste of fine coffee. Too bad most people think that an expensive cup of Jo is a good one. Well, people do that with wine also.
