Steve Carell will MOST LIKELY leave "The Office" next season#1

Posted: 6/28/10 at 2:47pm

Steve Carell said that the next season of The Office will MOST LIKELY be his last. “I think [season] 7 will be my last year,” he said over the weekend at the premiere of his new animated flick, Despicable Me. “I want to fulfill my contract. I think it’s a good time to move on.”

Asked if there’s anything that could change his mind, Carell said, “No. I just want to spend more time with my family.”

It will be weird watching it without him should they decide to continue it with out him, but the show has paid little attention to the other characters and has only focused on him. His chracter isn't funny when that happens.

Steve's contract is up and some say this may just be a ploy for him to get more $$$.

But seriously, I think The Office jumped the shark this season. The whole Kathy Bates copier storyline sunk the show to Davy Jones' locker.

I think it's time for a series finale.

Noooooooooo!! I still love that show. I actually love the whole Kathy Bates storyline.

If he leaves they should have David Brent replace Michael Scott.

I'm not sure how The Office can exist without Steve Carrell. But if he leaves and they keep going, I hope they write him a happy ending with Holly.

I am a loyal fan of "The Office" and I truly don't think the show will go on without him, and I wouldn't want it to.

Stage Door, I did see it..and yeah I liked it. I loved the very end that hinted that Holly will be back! I love those two together.

Aren't they kind of setting it up for Kelly to take over? Remember, she was chosen for the diversity management training, or whatever that was.

PEACE.

The show has suffered since Michael Schur and Greg Daniels left to concentrate on Parks & Recreation (which I think is now better than The Office and the characters are way more likable imo). Sure there is the occasional good episode like 'The Southern Murder Mystery' but I am not surprised Carrell has chosen now to leave, probably should have done it sooner. I think it can work without him though viewers may decide otherwise. This is pretty much Mindy Kaling's show, not just because it looks like Kelly is taking over, but she is writing and directing a lot of what the show is currently.

Great news. It's definitely time for the show to end - The Office was pretty good once upon a time, but strummergirl is right, Parks & Rec has far surpassed it over the past year and TO has become the weakest show of the Thursday night comedy block, IMO. It's time to just put the show out to pasture and let Carell go do his own thing.

Also, the only other castmember whose career I'm particularly invested in at this point is Kaling, but she has a development deal with NBC-Universal, so I think she'll be okay.

It's Official.

"Yes, it will be my last," Carell, 47, told UsMagazine.com while promoting his movie "Despicable Me". "It's the last (season) on my contract, and I want to honor my contract."

Carell, who won a Golden Globe award for his role, said he wanted to spend more time with his wife and two young children.

It will be hard to see him go, but all of the other actors are so good at what they do and have created such complex, funny, and complete characters, I would gladly continue to watch the show far after he leaves.

I stopped watching it this season, I thought the characters became too unlikable and thought Jim becoming a co-manager affected the funny dynamic the series originally had.
Doesn't Mindy Kalling have a contract to develop her own sitcom? I wonder how the show will go on without Carrell, I don't think it should, and add me to those who would still love to see him get a happy ending with Holly.

I think it would be a hilarious ending if Dwight took over and everyone quit the Office one-by-one... except Jim and Pam.
