The evening got off to a roaring start with a charged Alanis Morisette...focusing heavily on her "Jagged Little Pill" days, Alanis tore through number after number and sang "You outta Know" with just the right amount of tone, phrasing and musicanship that seems to be generally lacking these days when this epic is taken on either by angry fem rockers or worse, "camp" performers.

As soon as the lights went back on, My friend Jacqui nudged me and went:

"Holy S***, your idol just fell onto her sister"..

..and with that statement, started the Mary Kate and Ashley Olson portion of the evening...Ashley, looked adorable and sober, Mary Kate, oh Mary Kate, looked like Janis Joplin as a sock puppet...It seemed that her fall had been caused by her CONTINUING TO DANCE even though the set was over..like 5 minutes over...

She was led away to the Bathroom for god only knows what reason..

Next, Two words: RYAN REYNOLDS....Alanis's fiance and finer in three dimension then two...sitting a few rows back from the MK...minding his own beeswax!

About 12 minutes before the concert started, in walks, or should I say struts, Lohan, black leather up to HERE and complete with Mother, entourage and Kelly Osbourne?

Both Danced the night away while looking fairly clean and Lohan seems to really be able to move well - could a Sally Bowles be in her future..??

Now on to the STONES: A LESSON in showmanship, musicality, stamina, innovation and just plain hard work. The final hour just kicked butt from here to Michigan ending with a "Brown Sugar" that melted the paint off the walls...Mick was able to show what makes a superstar and what well..does not...and it ain't AMDA, StageDoor Manor or Julliard Training, I can tell you that!

all in all a GREAT evcening - and free for me too which is always a plus..

I was there as well, in nosebleeds, which were surprisingly not bad. Well, for the Stones set. I had to move for Alanis, because of those damn Ameriquest signs (our section and beyond cheered when they took it down!) Alanis was great. It was great to see her plug in and rock out after seeing her acoustic JLP tour earlier in the summer. I think the first couple of songs were a little sketchy sound-wise. It sounded like her band was really overpowering the vocals, but by the third song or so, everything evened out and all was good. I felt really bad for her though. There was a reasonable size crowd (especially compared to the crowds for the opener at the last couple major gigs I went to...well, obviously Alanis is by far the biggest name of the lot, but still) I was shocked at how low key everyone was. Although there were a lot of people there, the reception was beyond tepid. re: Stones: Alanis: MSG: Tonight!! Report later! Ziemba special guest!...Or maybe that was just the vibe up where I was???

Here's Alanis' Set:

All I Really Want
8 Easy Steps
You Learn
Hands Clean
Hand in My Pocket
Crazy
You Oughta Know
Uninvited
Ironic

Anyway, moving right along. I was beginning to get a little concerned that they were zapping Keith w/ a defibrillator or something, because the Stones didn't go on until 5 of 10, according to my watch. After reading much hubbub about curfews at arenas around the 1st leg of the U2 tour, I was starting to get a little worried that we were in for an hour concert. No worries though, the boys, er...gents? (I just can't call them "the boys) rocked it out for 2 hours.

Voiceanth, I agree that the tail-end of the show definitely rocked the hardest. You Can't Always Get What You Want, Brown Sugar, Paint it Black (AWESOME!!!)...hell, pretty much everything, post B-Stage kicked some serious ass. Here's the setlist from iorr.org:

1. Start Me up
2. She's so Cold
3. You Got Me Rockin
4. Tumblin Dice
5. Rough Justice
6.Back of My Hand
7. 19th Nervous Breakdown!!!!
8. Bitch
9. All Down the Line
10. Get Up Stand Up
INTROS
11. The Worst
12. Infamy
13. Miss You
14. OH No, Not You Again
15. Satisfaction
16. Honky Tonk Women
17. Sympthy for the Devil
18. Paint It Black
19. Its Only Rock and Roll
20. Jumpin Jack Flash
Encore
21. You Cant Always Get What You Want
22. Brown Sugar

Oh, and thanks for the tidbits on MK&A I swear I caught a glimps of them bobbin' and weavin' on the screens, but it was so quick, I figured probably not. "Mary Kate, oh Mary Kate, looked like Janis Joplin as a sock puppet" = very funny and kind of sad.

So, all was good...Other than the rather SH*Tty subway ride home. I'm really getting tired of getting jerked around. Maybe all my good subway karma is coming back to bite me in the ass, but this past week subway-wise (particularly late night, but certainly not only at night) has really sucked. I'm definitely not a fan of walking (solo) any farther than absolutely necessary past midnight where I live.

ETA: Alanis' setlist.

I didn't even bother bringing my camera. The pix I took at Coldplay turned out terrible, and I kept taking them, fiddling around w/ settings, etc, rather than just enjoying the concert. I think I'll mooch a better camera off someone else for U2 in October...see how that goes.
