I saw this last week for the first time and was enthralled. I think it's a shame that neither Ferrell nor Thompson were nominated for Oscars.

I LOVED this movie. And, until "Dreamgirls" was the best movie I had seen in theatres in a looooong time. It had a solid story, and relied on charm, wit and amazing performances to tell it, rather than a gimmicky special effect. Will Ferrel's performance really redeemed himself as an actor. Yes, "Taladega Nights" was funny, but it didn't require much, and it was nice to seem him branch out to a more subtle humor. Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman and Maggie Gyllenhaal were, as usual, divine. Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better diversion movie.
