Streetcar Named Desire w/ Ann-Margret

Being a big Ann-Margret fan, i bought this not too long ago on VHS and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Ann-Margret was relatively strong in Blanche's quieter moments, but when it came to the mental anguish, it just seemed like the role was beyond where she could go. Treat Williams was pretty inadequate to me as Stanley. I was quite surprised by how ineffective I thought his performance was. Randy Quaid was alright, but nothing special as Mitch. The only performance by the leads that I could really praise totally is Beverly D'Angelo as Stella. She was quite solid.

I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I would actually like to see this, and I would like to see the 1990's version with Jessica Lange, but not too sure I want to pay a lot of them......or buy them at all.

How much was your video?

It's the only version I like. Don't understand your issues with it, at all. I hate the original film, so if you're doing a comparison, then I have no sense of reference.

About $25 on Amazon.

Nope, not doing a comparison.

I loved the original film, but I also liked the Jessica Lange version.

The Ann-Margaret version is much closer to the original play than the movie version, although I've been told that if I can get my hands on the director's cut of the Vivian leigh film, it's a whole 'nother ball of wax.

Aa much as I adore AM, I did not care for her as Blanche or Belle Watling.
