`Maybe it is because my memory has the span of a golfish's, but I am horrible with names and people friend me - and I don't recognize their name. Then I see their picture, which looks nothing like them, and I don't know who it is...but I know the name is something familiar...and I feel stupid asking who it is.

There was an editorial on this in the student paper at my school a few weeks ago. It was about how Facebook friends aren't real friends, because you see them in public and either don't recognize them, or feel too awkward approaching them.
That's why I'm ridiculously lazy when it comes to Facebook, I only friend people back when they friend me, I don't bother searching out for people to add. Which is probably why it looks like I only have 10 friends.

I only add people I actually talk to. Friends of mine are having "friend wars", trying to get more friends than each other. I could care less.
Further evidence of our growing fear of face-to-face communication.
Anyone else find it more comfortable to send someone an email rather than calling them up?

Actually...the funniest one is this:
My friend friended me. He didn't have any bio or a picture (he just signed up). Took me forever to realize who it was - since we don't call him by his real name - let alone his full name.
S'ok. He said many people didn't realize who he was either.
myspace is better.

My roommate's boyfriend actually attempted to send out friend requests to everyone at our university, and nearly every one of them was accepted. It's really amazing how many people you've never even seen before will accept you as a "Facebook friend." Of course, we at Duke apparently Facebook whores, so maybe it's just us.
Personally, I'm extremely lazy and never friend anyone, mostly because I can't remember people's names long enough to try to find them, and the pictures don't help.
I will go out and search people but I only confirm requests when I actually know the person.
I find it to be a wonderful way to keep up with what your friends at other schools are doing.

I was at Duke for three-day meeting. Nice friendly place.
