Summer theatre internships in NYC

I'm a 20 year old musical theater major in Orlando FL. I am thinking about subletting my apt and spending the summer in NYC, but I can only do it if I have something to go up there for, like a summer internship/work study type thing. I have been looking for internships available from production companies, theatres, and casting agencies, but have found it realllly hard to find any information online about these things...I know the opportunities are out there...does anyone know of any internship I could apply for?? Thanks so muchhhh!!!

Summer internships don't really exist. Interns usually are seasonal with theatre companies like Roundabout or Manhattan Theatre Club, but write the companies now and ask about just the summer. Not an email, a letter. Companies may not have formal intern programs, but they could invent one if the price was right--that is, free.

Head to your library, the larger library the better. Theatre Communications Group (TCG) publishes Artsearch which is a listing of job openings in their member theatres which are the regionals all across the US. There is also an on-line version of this. It isn't cheap which is why I suggest a library.

Then, like Dorothy Gale, look in your own back yard. There are regional theatres (also known as LORT theatres) in Sarasota, Jupiter, Palm Beach and for all I know Orlando, Tampa, Miami and many other mid-to-large size cities in Florida. Try them.

Of course summer internships exist. I've had four different ones in NYC. All with theatre companies. Roundabout and MTC both have summer internships. When it starts getting into Feb/March/April start looking on Playbill and there will be tons posting.

Have you checked on Playbill.com's Job Listings board? They list all kinds of opportunities, and you might just run across some internships as well.

okay I KNEW they must exist, ive known people who did them, I just never knew how to apply, lol. I looked at the ones at Ruondabout and MTC and they look awesome so I am definitly applying and I didnt even know playbill had a job listing board I will tttoootally look at that...thnks guys =)
