My wife & I wanted to go to the movies. We walk, in the heat , to the nearest movie. Imagine our surprise when we get there to see a sign the air conditioning is not working. You would think they would charge half price but nope they were not reducing admission simply because the theater was a hotbox. They have no problem constantly hiking admission prices. They have no problem constantly hiking concession prices. To keep their theater cool by spending money by fixing their air conditioner this they have a problem with. They wonder why people are staying away from the movies in droves. They want to keep lining their pockets & f*** their stupid customers
They just lost me. I told my wife if she wants to go fine. I will never suggest going again . I will watch movies on cable in the comfort of my home @ a fraction of the price. I am 58 & am basically saying enough is enough . I said screw politics when I had enough. The same is now true with attending movies .
There I feel much better
amen

That's bordering on absurd. Part of the reason people go to summer movies is to get out of the heat and spend two hours in a dark, air-conditioned space. Even better if the film's entertaining.

I no longer have to worry about this. Unless my wife suggests something she wants to see ( like Harry Potter) I will never set foot inside a movie theater again. Once I divorced myself from politics, I felt 100 % better. Now , with this decision, I am starting to feel better already. No longer having to pay ridiculous prices in cramped seats with crap all over the floor. Thanks Branson theater you did me a big favor
Probably the person in charge on a Sunday afternoon didn't have the authority to whip a half price deal into place. I once tried to sit thru The Net (with Sandra Bullock) in a movie theater with broken air conditioning. The movies wasn't good enough to bear the sauna-like conditions. We left about 20 minutes into the movie.
I am actually going to the movies tonight. Anyone have any suggestions on whats good?

Don't go to that particular cinema again, sure...but why give up on movies forever?
I'm surprised no one else was at the theater protesting. The air conditioner wasn't working 100% at my church this morning. It wasn't that bad, maybe 65-70 degrees (it was ventilating, but not the normal arctic breeze we're used to), but people were complaining like it was a sauna. And this was at church, I can't imagine how they would have reacted if they had paid to be there.
Mr. Roxy: Look at the bright side, at least they had a sign posted, so you didn't already pay for your ticket before you found out for yourself.
I would sooner (and have, more or less) give up on going to movies all-together because of the nearly prohibitively expensive ticket prices, coupled with the lacklustre quality of movies nowadays, over one bad experience at a theatre. There's no justifying the high inflation over the last few years (I remember the price of a night-time weekend showing in 1998 costing me $5. Now, it's $15!) and many of the movies I'd want to see are on smaller theatres that hve cheaper prices anyway.
Then again, there's also HP4 and Rent to look forward too, but I don't go to the movies unless there's something I really, really want to experience on the big screen.
i much PREFER to watch movies in the comfort of my own home. there's rarely anything that comes to the theatre that i just HAVE to see.

Read Type a Tiff's post. I am now 58 & I have had a liftetime of BS re the movies. Today I reached the boiling point. If I went back to the flicks, what do I have to look forward to? $ 12 admission prices. $ 6 regular popcorn & assorted other BS?. I think not
I had a good run with the movies but it is time to move on. Theater owners care not a whit about there customers so I have done a Howard Beale: "I am as mad as hell & I am not going to take it anymore"
Screw them. Let them get their pound of flesh elsewhere. I am done

I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith today and really liked it...dragged a bit through the exposition but then quickened its pace...the whole thing was suprisingly funny and not a typical action movie
