Anyone else hear the interview with David Paskowitz on NPR's Fresh Air the other day?
A documetary has just been released about a family with nine children who lived and traveled in a 24 foot camper. The father, a physician, gave up his profession in favor of wandering the world to surf. The kids were raised strictly (healthy food and lots of exercise), home schooled, and as surfers.
It's a story that raises a lot of questions, even for the free spirits among us. Papa was a real authoritarian and could be somewhat abusive. Mama did what she was told and produced a new baby annually. The kids were cut off from any semblance of a normal childhood existence. Yet, all nine children have been able to assimilate into the adult world successfully.
The interview was fascinating, and the documentary opened yesterday at the IFC Film Center in Manhattan. I'm mildly obsessed with seeing it as soon as possible.

That does sound interesting.
And I can totally see you giving it all up to surf the world, Iflit.

I'm still wondering about the logistics of making babies every year with all those people living together in that trailer.
But that's just me...
Eeww. Hadn't thought about that. He probably made them wait outside or sent them surfing. I hope.
