For those of you, such as myself, who are pursuing careers as actors/dancers/singers, etc. what do you do to pay your bills?
Myself, I work as an assistant to a partner at a major architectural firm. I can leave for auditions during the day, and I study in the evenings.
I have heard a lot of actors become real estate agents- you make your own schedule and can earn a lot of money (my friend make 10K last month from commission). Anyone here do this?
I am just looking for alternatives to waiting tables and bartending, which I can't do nor would be any good at.

I actually *did* bartend for a long time.... I loved it.
I was also a nanny for a wonderful family of 4....
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
On that note, all you actors/singers/dancers/waiters who are temporary waiters, don't take it out on the customer. I am not the one who didn't call you back after the audition. Please don't act like you're too good to take my order! You can't imagine how often that happens to me, especially living in the theater district, where even working actors have second and third jobs.
On the plus side, you can work in a lovely restaurant/bar (Duplex, Vynl, etc) where you go from taking my order to belting out a song or even sitting on my lap. Those are the actors/singers/dancers/waiters i like.
Midtown, most of the actors who will sit in your lap are actually at the Gaiety.
that's two posts i've agreed with today.
who are you and what have you done with midtown?
papa, that is one sexy trannie. I wonder if he'll be appearing at the Duplex any time soon...

*cough*
I am a business intel. analyst by day, and a bartender by night.
Sometimes, when a customer talks down to me, I stand there, and just smile and polish my Breitling cause it makes me feel better... But I always take it... I'm no better than anyone else.
I love 90% of the job.
Bartending can be serious money. I'm thinking about leaving my lame-o office gig and just slinging drinks. It's more money and it's a far more interesting social environment.
Not that I don't LOVE working amongst angry middle-aged people all day
Bartending can definitely be serious cash. It just doesn't suit my personality, nor do the late nights.
It's tricky- office jobs give you paid vacation and health, which are pretty important. But if you're making enough money bartending, you can get health thru the Freelancer's Union for a pretty reasonable fee.
