Any other fans of York's extraordinary turn in the Noel Coward Stories series on PBS in the mid-80s? STAR QUALITY was the most delicious of the lot, a brutally honest look at a play's development and perfomance in post-War London, perfectly cast down to the smallest role, with a sharp-tongued turn by Ian Richardson as a flambuoyant producer and Ms. York as the diva to end all stage divas, yet played straight, the comedy all character-specific. It's included in the just released set of Coward DVDs, and for my money, worth the whole package. I always thought Woody Allen must have seen this when he was writing BULLETS OVER BROADWAY. Among many similarities, there's a first rehearsal sequence that is almost exactly like the one in STAR.
