At last night's "Gay Gala", much like the HRC awards meets the GLAAD awards, the top award of the night was presented to Jonas Gardell, a comedian, famous for his writings about life as a gay man during the AIDS crisis in the 80s. One of his books was made into a series called, "Never Dry Tears Without Gloves," referencing the instructions given to a nurse for when dealing with AIDS patients. Our beautiful Crown Princess was in attendance as a surprise to present the award. She walked out, appropriately, to Abba's Dancing Queen. Before she presented the award, she said,
"It's a true delight for me to be here tonight. To feel your power, your happiness and your sense of community,"
and about the author, she said,
"Few have touched us and made us so proud as you have. Your message is clear. Straighten your back. Stretch out your hand. We will wipe each other's tears,"
It was a very proud moment for a lot of Swedes and is being hailed as ground-breaking. The gala is a huge event and is televised in prime time here, this Saturday, with pretty much anyone who is anyone in attendance. I have to say, it made me pretty stinkin' proud of where I live. I just wanted to share.
Our Princess Rocks.
Wow. Your princess DOES rock--what a fun and inspiring story.
If I wasn't 100% sure that our magnificent FLOTUS could hold her own in wit, warmth and elegance (not to mention upper-body conditioning), I would be jealous.
As it is, I'm just very happy the Swedes have Victoria.
I think if I ever had to give up my British citizenship, the liberal Northern European democracies (Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands) would all be pretty close to the top of my list of places to head for.
And she's also rocking that tiara--or is it a crown?
How do I become a citizen of Sweden?
The easiest way is to fall in love with a Swede.
She's 1/4 Brazilian... can I call her "my princess" as well?! LOL
Yes yes, as you can claim half of Queen Sylvia!
LOL That's good to know!
I wish more figures of power in Brazil were like Princess Victoria :S
What is the 2nd easiest way? I want to work in your schools!
