i wonder what concept they're going to go with...original...revival...i mean of course i know they're not gonna have the cast walking around with instruments in the film..but i'm wondering if they'll take the gothic path...or a period piece...interested to see

What about Jim Broadbent? Has he signed on or was that just a rumor?

does anyone else think they should have cast broadway actors? i would have like to see Cerveris in the movie...

I don't want to see the Broadway cast in the movie version unless they have some pre-existing film box-office clout (especially not the revival cast). They've already contributed to the role. I want to see someone else do it. Besides, the film should not be seen in the same light as the play. Like a revival, the film should be seen as a new production with a different director and style.

I can imagine some movie studio head thinking "Depp or Cerveris? Depp or Cerveris? Who do I think will sell more tickets?"

I really hope Depp can sing. I know some of the songs have been axed from the movie, but I would hate to hear him choak or cheat his way through Friends, Epiphany or Pretty Women, that is, if the the songs even make it through the final draft.

^ It would be a shame if they cut those songs. I'm also hoping they cast a good Anthony, because I'll be very upset if they cut "Johanna" and "Kiss Me" (they're my two favorites).

^ Yep, it's going to be a movie (directed by Tim Burton)... should be out in 2007/2008.

It is one thing not to include a song in a movie musical due to pacing. For example Chicago did not include Me and My Baby and it was no big loss. But to throw out a song because the actor can't cut it would be tragic.

I heard "Green Finch" would be gone. I know a lot of people hate it, but without it Johanna barely exists (and her relationship with Antony is underwritten as it is).

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

Ugh, that sucks.

I really hope they don't cut "Johanna" or "Kiss Me". "Kiss Me" is brilliant in the sense that it carries like a real conversation. It's so quick paced and also a great 'relationship' song between Anthony and Johanna.
