My friend and I were discussing LaChiusa's Wild Party, and the closing of Sweeney the other day, and she just emailed this to me.
"Sweeney Was a Blonde
Sweeney was a blonde and his age stood still
And he danced twice a day in vaudeville
Grey eyes, lips like coals aglow
His face was a tinted mask of snow
True
He knew
There was little he hadn’t been through
And he liked his lovers
Violent and vicious
Sweeney was sexually ambitious"
... I don't know what to make of this...

Don't poeple realize that the only way to do a revival is to copy the original EXACTLY? There is NO ROOM for originality. The director should just watch the video over and over and tell the actors to do the same, and tell them to do it exactly like the video.

I knew an actress that was in a production of Sweeney that did this. She said it was so obvious. An actor would ask a question about blocking or interpretation, and the director would say "Let me think about it." She said at the next rehearsal, he would give the exact blocking or interpretation that was on the video.
