Just saw it in 3-D IMAX.......I was blown away. I agree the story was a little drawn out, but the visual effects were sooo awesome! They showed the preview for Alice in Wonderland - I have been chomping at the bit for this movie anyway, but now I MUST see it in 3-D IMAX also.
Avatar broke the $1 billion dollar mark, thanks in large part to an excellent foreign gross.

Not surprised. I went to the 4:30 showing on Friday. It was showing in two theatres and they were turning people away just after 4:00.
This movie completely blew me away. I thought the movie was completely amazing. This was the best use of 3D I've ever experienced. There were no gimmicky things coming out of the screen at you. It was all just used to add an incredible depth to the film. It made you feel like you were in its space, not like it was coming into yours.
The story was perfectly good. Not once, while I was watching this film did I come out of it enough to even stop & think that it was a retelling of some other story. What movie isn't?
See this movie!...in 3D!
I LOVED the movie. I saw it Christmas day knowing NOTHING about it. I took my favorite kid in the world who had already seen it twice. Now I have seen it twice. It had its flaws. Some of James Cameron's dialogue is really bad. During the final scene during Jake's ceremony the music planing sounds JUST like the instrumental from Titanic. I thought that was a little distracting. Then when the credits rolled and the Leona Lewis song piped in sounding just like My Heart Will Go On I laughed out loud. I honestly thought it was Celine Dion. Other than that, I thought it was stunning.
