I had never seen this and thought I would share. I am loving this!

I found this a little while ago. I really love it, especially Perkins.
I love Lisl. I love this song. I love Evening Primrose.
It's such a dark, haunting and creepy piece. Like a musical episode of "The Twilight Zone."
I've seen the whole thing several times. Highly original and absolutely memorable. And Sondheim's songs are brilliant (but I know I'm preaching to the choir here).
I hope someday they can release it on DVD, even if the quality sucks. People should see this.
Yeah, I was hoping the quality was better. I stumbled onto this just by chance. I wonder if this was the beginning of Sondheim's friendship with Perkins. For some reason I thought they only worked together on 'Last of Sheila'.
In a small score filled with gems, my favorite is "I Remember."
I love the struggle to relate to things in the current world, with things we knew from the past. I find it heartbreaking.
I guess I can relate to that struggle big-time.
I don't understand why there are no color prints of this show. This aired on the exact same day that I bought my first color television for my room at home. It was most definitely in color!
I have a the whole thing on VHS, with the commercials on it and everything. The commercials are a hoot. Compared to todays commercials, they seem like mini-series.
I adore the show and you get to see Dorothy Stickney, who was the original "Mother" in "Life With Father" and never did much film work, in it as the Grande Dame who rules the society of people who live in the department store.
Not to threadjack, but the thing that gets me about Charmain Carr is that she did only two things in the short career of any interest: "The Sound of Music" and "Evening Primrose".
So, she goes and writes a book about "The Sound of Music" ("Forever Liesl") and writes about her childhood and her marriage and her career as interior decorator (and writes about decorating part of the Neverland Ranch for Michael Jackson),
BUT DOESN'T SAY A FREAKIN' WORD ABOUT "EVENING PRIMROSE"
sondheimboy2, interesting because after I posted this I went over to ebay and Amazon to compare prices on Charmain's book. I bought it last night because I was hoping to hear here stories about Tony Perkins, Sondheim, and other theatre stories. Yay! I now have Neverland Ranch color schemes to look forward to.LOL!
Charmian's book is wonderful, though. I read it on a flight to Europe years ago, and it was such a great escape. She talks about every aspect of auditioning, rehearsing and filming the Sound of Music. Plus all the aftermath.
Great stuff.
I too read Carr's book and loved it. This was before I even knew there was a genius called Stephen Sondheim (I was about 16), so I didn't really wasn't looking to read about EVENING PRIMROSE, nor do I recall her mentioning Sondheim.
I'm sad she didn't go on to do more stuff in film or theater, her voice is beautiful, and she has such a great presence on camera. It's the first time I see a clip of EVENING PRIMROSE (though I have listened to the soundtrack with Carr and Perkins before) and really like it. Wish there was a clip of "I Remember," Carr's rendition is beautiful, and I agree with Besty, it's my favorite song out of the three or four from the score.
There's a great album with Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin singing the songs from EVENING PRIMROSE, as well as Neil Patrick Harris singing the songs in THE FROGS/EVENING PRIMROSE album. Megan Mullally also gives a gorgeous version of "I Remember" in her first album, now out of print.
