What a magnificent view DD...CONGRATS on the new place !!!!!
*pops bottle of Veuve*
Looks beautiful! So open, lots of windows and that VIEW!! Can't wait to see it!
DD-- that's gorge-mous! I luvz it!!!
Dude..
Jade Pagoda is an asian restaurant and gay/straight bar..
MUSE Pagoda is the band we saw at the Baltic Room made up of squishies (I think they all were), including that gal that lived through that bizarre and frustrating Momma Don't Hurt Me So Bad recording session.....
"Squishies"?
Squishies = Microsoft employees :)
Dare I ask how that moniker came to be??
oops... major blonde moment...
tiffy, I believe it comes from calling people that work at Microsoft Microsofties, softies... you get the idea. But I could be wrong.
Okay.... here's a task....
FAVE DIVE, straight or gay, in YOUR city of residence?
and I mean, DIVE.. you dig going there, hanging out, don't mind that the floor is filthy (whereas another joint would make you crazy) and the staff is rude..
we'll break it down into three categories....
Dive Eatery
Dive Performance Space
Dive Bar
Mine...
Dive Eatery:
Beth's on Aurora (Seattle)
** it's cleaner than before and that disappointed me.. all the staff is dirty, tattoed (yea!) and pierced, the floor reveals eight layers of linoleum and the walls are covered in patron art colored at the table... Lovely :)
Dive Performance Space:
TIE:
Rendezvous (Belltown, Seattle)
** former motion picture studio preview house with small theatre with projection room.. home now to tons of local bands, great ancient tavern next door
**or**
ReBar (near Cascade District, DT, Seattle)
**fabulous bands, excellent bartenders, DJ MC Queen Lucky one of the owners, home to many cabarets (I've performed there, for example, Nick Garrison has done Hedwig there tons..)
Will they EVER clean the walls? I HOPE NOT!
Dive Bar:
Comet (Capitol Hill)
The greatest, scuzziest straight bar I've seen in ages...
Dive Bar:
Dives? DIVES?
I don't do dives. But you're considering ReBar a dive, so I guess I like that dive.
(I guess this makes me the polished one?)
When you guys come up with Undi to Vancouver, I'll show you what happens when a gay bar goes very, very wrong. Yes, I'm talking about the Dufferin. Then you'll see why I was so impressed by the places we hit in Seattle!
This is also a bump because we have to plan Undi's arrival! You three. On my turf. Friday through to Saturday night. Does that work? (Unfortunately, I don't think the family members would be too thrilled to have 3 more people sharing a futon in our cramped living room/dining room and all seven of us sharing one bathroom, so I don't know if I can put you guys up. )
Tiff--- I LOVE Dives..
and I LOVE the DUFFERIN.... the skankiest strip shows on the planet with every run away youth dancing their rural Saskatchewan arses on the postage sized stage at the "Back Streets" side while you wait for the (usually straight) headliner's show to start...
Nothing more hilarious to me than watching a Toonie flung to the mini-stage and spin like a top at the foot of the underfed dancer, swirling like a hubcap making that whir-whir-wwwhiirr-whhiirrrrr sound as its revolutions slow and it finally rests on the sticky floor ......
Off to see DD and the 2m dream date he's again with...ahh.. and yes, this time, truly, unabashedly, I approve.. never truly have before...
oh.. and my car window was smashed for the 3rd time in less than a year, this time in 20 minutes just outside of a restaurant where I briefly saw DD... I'm bummed..
BARTENDER!!!
Fido, for putting "Saskatchewan" and "toonie" (spelled correctly) into your post, I'm a fan of yours for life.
Well we'll have to go to the Dufferin for laughs! That's probably the dive-iest place I know in Van City and it's pretty wretched! That 6" elevated "stage" is pitiful! And the music was gawdawful! All filled with bikers, transients and and the odd rural runaway twink or three! What a nightmare!
We'll have to show Undi the best of Davie Street too! Celebrities is a must. Also maybe Odyssey and/or Numbers. And I've heard of Fountainhead but I've never been.
ETA: Sorry to hear about your window! Did they steal anything or just smash the mofo?
The planning begins...
Friday through Sat. in Van sounds like a plan. Will have to begin planning our Seattle outings...
A must...
Add Pioneer Square...
... Snoqualmie Falls
And we'll take a trip to...
Mt. St. Helens...
The Locks...
Of course...
Symphony?
Roslyn, perhaps? THat's fun... (on the same trip as the Falls)..
mmm.... I love to take people to the locks.. see the boats and watch those tough fish swim back :)
Perhaps...
And we MUST visit the Troll...
and the Japanese Garden...
if the weather cooperates, even kayak by the house boats on Lake Union...
Then,
there's the WET SPOT to introduce DD and the ladies to...
The Wet Spot
We can stroll from my place to Volunteer Park...
