jrb - It has nothing to do with being a prude. I grew up in a big Navy town, and I saw hundreds of older men with tattoos that they had had for years. I know what happens to them. It isn't pretty. At all. And we won't discuss what's going to happen to all these piercings over time. Take a look at an older woman's ear lobe who's had pieced ears for many years. Again, not pretty. At all. And I'm just old enough to have learned that everything isn't 'only for now' - no matter what the puppets might think.

Actually, at one point I thought "hmm maybe I'll get one." Then I thought about it and I thought, ugh what if I get fat and it stretches? Or what about when I get old and it gets wrinkly?

HOT............... c'mon I have 7 and I love them all. the Theater Mask on the calf are the best. I get so many comments on them and they are all positive.

Right on DGrant! I have seen many an elderly man w them & they really look sad. From a professional pt of view- it can create a real problem for the makeup dept of a film or tv show, the larger & more colourful the more of a problem. So if u had to cast a supporting or featured role & it was between 2 perfomers & one had tats & the other was clean ,well what would you choose?

It all depends on the tattoo and its wearer. They can fall into both categories very easily. I already have one, and I fully intend on getting another one.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Depends. Usually I'd say no, but I agree with Cara; if done tastefully, it can be VERY hot. I've given up on posting pictures up here, but just look at my Adam. His tattoo is freakin' hot.

definitely NOT... SOOOO cliche now... too many people are getting them because it's "cool" but, it's turning out to be all the same... a "tribal" band around the bicep or ankle, or a butterfly on the ankle, or something on the lower back, etc... OOOooo, HOT!!! blechhh... common is more like it... i know a few people who have tattoos which MEAN something to the bearer (perhaps to memorialize a life-changing event) and have had them long before having a tattoo became the "cool" thing to do... i had thought about getting one which celebrates my Venetian heritage, but the more tattoos i see on everyone, the less i want one...

I think tattoos can be pretty hot on the right people.
One...maybe two tattoos at most. More than that, and you start looking like you've done time in prison.

Some are tacky, but others can be cool. (Big heart with an ex-girlfriend's name? Tacky. Celtic knot [a la Adam]? Cool) As people have said, on the right person in the right place, it works.

I defintely think a tattoo should have great meaning. I want my tattoo to be universal--something I can stand by in 50 years as I could now. Keith Haring has always been one of my favorite artists, and I feel like the image I have chosen represents several important characteristics that I have and/or wish to have as an artist.
barbed wire, tribal, and Asian symbols are just a few of the cliches out there--unless one of those things REALLY has meaning to you, it seems like something that is only done because it looks hot now. It probably won't be hot in 10 years.
