I have it, finishing How I Paid for College before I start it - but over the weekend watched my tape of her on Oprah. She seems pretty believable...but no one is backing her up.

I saw her on Oprah, too. She seems very down to earth. I'm not in a position to believe or not believe because I don't know what went on there. It's her side of the story, true or not.

Well, joey, it's like this. Her story is that she was neglected as a child when she lived with her mentally ill mother - not fed, bathed, etc. Eventually her father got custody and he was mean, ignored her, had girlfriends and drugs around all the time. She never felt loved.

It actually isn't that far fetched of a story. She obviously had problems growing up (hell, who here didn't) and that sounds like what happens to a lot of people.

I tend to agree, Matt. I just found it odd when I read today that Griffin, who I would have thought would be backing her up, is calling her book "a big pile of poop."

I saw her on Oprah and on Dateline. I think botox has gone to her brain as she was out of it.

Picked up the book on Saturday when I was in B&N and it seems a little vague. Nothing as indepth as I thought it would be. I didn't end up buying it. I'm curious to know what you though about it when you're done Rath.

Won't read it. I don't watch Oprah anymore, either; there's only so much sensational female victimization stories one can do before it starts becoming exploitation.

I haven't read the book, and I still think of her as that little girl in Paper Moon, but don't forget the woman was hooked on heroin at one point in her life. A serious drug that can do serious damage. And of all people you would think her brother could corroborate some of her stories. Maybe she needed some money.....

They showed her apartment in NY which is being renovated - it's quite spacious. So either she has a lot of money already, or she needed a lot. Who knows.

It'd be a lot less spacious if she had custody of her kids though....

Hard to say--it's a lot of sensational stuff (I saw Oprah as well and some book excerpts in People) but it sounds like her dad was out to lunch, so it's probably quite possible.
