They're furious because they have lost. Tomorrow the Democratic party will pass milestone legislation that has been promised the people of the USA for over a hundred years. And they are doing it without the Republican party- indeed, over the screaming raging body of the Conservative movement.
Yes, We Can.

Rep Emanuel Cleaver Spat On By T-Partier, Arrest Made - Crewof42 (Updated w/Clyburn Quote)
The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a tea party demonstrator who spat on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri. Cleaver, who is a Reverand and who will preach at a service tomorrow morning before Congress votes on health care, was walking to a vote when the incident occurred. In most jurisdictions spitting is considered an assault.
These are all the details I know right now. This incident was reported to me by Joyce Jones of Black Enterprise who spoke w Rep Cleaver directly before President Obama spoke to House Democrats.

What I find amazing is where was the Tea Party Crowd during Bush's 8 years? First Tea Party rally was in February 2009,less than a month after Obama took office. Republicans honestly feel ALL THE FINANCIAL TROUBLES occurred under Obama's watch and things were perfect under Bush's 8 years.
If a Republican gets in the White House in 2012 do you really think these tea party morons will continue with their hate rally's?

and none too soon enough, either
John Dingell, like his father before him, has introduced a national health insurance bill into the House every year he's held office and usually it was just laughed off - 77 consecutive years. Even Walter Reuther of the UAW and the Big 3 automakers agreed upon pushing for national health care as far back as 1948.
It will be nice to see this happen while the now 83-year-old Dingell is still around to see it.

There are actually only two sides -the truth and the lie.
#12Why Aren't Republicans Denouncing This Hate Group?
Posted: 3/21/10 at 8:52amIn my opinion, there is a certain segment of our society that just cannot bare the notion that a black man is our president. They just cannot bare it. I can't remember ever seeing a stronger negative reaction to a sitting president, not based on issues, but just for the sake of it.

I think race is a very facile reduction of the hatred, which is just as strong for Nancy Pelosi for being a powerful liberal female and Barney Frank for being a powerful liberal gay. It's not even that they hate minorities. They hate liberals of any stripe.
The hatred is for a powerful central government. Somehow, they have conflated liberalism (and progressivism) into tyranny and an amalgamation of fascism and communism that simply makes no sense to those of us who are proud to be liberals and progressives. They think any large governmental system that taxes individuals is evil.
So it's much larger than race. We think racism is the biggest hatred of all, but hatred of liberals is larger and scarier.
If Colin Powell were the first black president, they would not hate him. It's bigger than race.

Posted: 3/21/10 at 9:46amYeah, I disagree with that. I think racism is the base hatred. I think the other issues you mention are the more socially acceptable ways of expressing the race hatred. And I think they were a gift to these people from the manipulative GOP.

Of course, having a News Network with men lying and adding fuel to the fire is no help. 99% of those tea party morons say they get their news ONLY from Fox. Rush, Glen Beck, Sean Hanity, and Fox News tells these people how to think and vote. They have no clue what they are doing there, only that they are suppose to be there and be angry.

Posted: 3/21/10 at 10:06amIt's fear of the "Other" no matter what the other is. The rage at a Tea Bag Rally is far too personal to be all political. They hate us because we are different- our race, our sex, our orientation, our intelligence- it all scares the hell out of these stupid white people.

Okay, so Art, Joe and Romantico--of course I see the signs and see the overt racism, homophobia and misogyny.
But what do you think of the Colin Powell question? Do you think they would hate him the way they hate Obama?

I think the major difference with Powell is that, because of his more conservative leanings, some members of the GOP would be less apt to manipulate race hatred to accomplish their conservative goals. Without the goading of the GOP, the race hating segment would not feel as legitimized in acting out their hatred. As I said, the GOP gives them false excuses for acting out now.
I think the racial signs you see now are actually a minority. Most carry signs about socialism and Marxism, when they're really, secretly thinking the "N" word. Most of them probably don't even understand what socialism is. But the GOP's given them these words as an acceptable way to fight the "N". If Powell were president, we might see less protest because it's harder to get out there in the light of day with out "cover" words provided by the GOP. But more of what we did see would probably be the blatant racism.

I think Obama's personal history plays into the craziness. Because his family does have ties to Islam, Kenya, and he personally to a controversial pastor, there is a kernel of possibility to the wild claims which people latch on to. I think Powell would have a backlash, but nothing like what we see with Obama. It is funny that the very reason that many of us thought he would be a good President are the traits being used now to fuel this frenzy,.
I have been following some of the teabagger's tweets, and they really believe that Obama is part of some great socialist plot to destroy this country. I respect greatly their passion, but wish they had a closer grasp on reality. I also find situational outrage less than compelling. To stay silent while Bush et al turned this country over to the Military Industrial Complex and corporate interests, and then start screaming at Obama because he is trying to get some watered-down health insurance reform passed just makes me shake my head and wonder about the future of this nation.
Part of me thinks that the far right is projecting onto Obama what they would do if they could, and so the assume he would do the same. The real problem is that there is no way to talk to some of these folks. I have tried, and you get the same knee-jerk canned responses.
Fundamentally, I do not believe your compensation should be based upon how many people you deny health services - which is how the system basically works today for health insurers. But, you try to have this conversation and you get called every name in the book. There is very little rational debate right now.

Posted: 3/21/10 at 12:05pmI think if Powell endorsed John McCain/Sarah Palin they would love him. Powell is now a communist just like Obama, regardless of his service to our country and his view on many conservative issues. They would be fine with Michael Steele being President and even act as if HE WERE the 1st African American President.Same with Bobby Jindal. As long as their agenda is with the extreme right, they could care less.An African American Liberal and a African American Conservative are looked at differently. They love Clarence Thomas and his politics. So, racism I think only comes into it when the Democrats are in control.

I wish they would stop calling it Health Care Legislation. Maybe Health-ish Care-kinda' Legislation.
I also think the teabaggers are a very important movement and they should not be silenced. When Mitt Romney told them from on high that there will be no third party candidate in the next presidential election, I hope this galvanized them to demonstrate that they will not be dictated to by the same old Republican playbook. They need to send a very powerful message to the Republicans that their votes are not to be counted on. It's the revolutionary thing to do, to resist such insider co-optation.
