Teens sue Riverside evangelical school over lesbian suspicions

You go girls!

Two 16-year-old girls who were expelled from a private Lutheran high school because they were suspected of being lesbians have sued the school for invasion of privacy and discrimination.

The lawsuit, filed last week in Riverside County Superior Court, seeks the girls' re-enrollment at the tiny California Lutheran High School, unspecified damages and an injunction barring the school from excluding gays and lesbians.

The suit could be a test case in the state on whether religious schools can deny enrollment to gays and lesbians, said Richard Ackerman, a lawyer who is president of Temecula's Pro-Family Center, which focuses on lawsuits dealing with conservative Christian values.

"There's no established law on this issue," said Ackerman, who's not involved in the current litigation. "It's very likely this will be a precedent-setting case."

"Technically, since it's a private institution, they can do whatever they want."

Not true - they recieve funding from the state of California. And you actually can compare exsessive drinking with being homosexual? I knew you were an effed up little guy - but really.

ah the 909- the longest 4 years of my life were spent in the 909... Good for them, I hope they win their suit, stuff like this:

"In a Sept. 12 letter to the parents, Bork acknowledged officials had seen no physical contact between the girls but said their friendship was "uncharacteristic of normal girl relationships and more characteristic of a lesbian one."
Bork said a parent of another child told him that the girls showed other students photos of them "posed in suggestive positions."

is just scary- we didn't see you do anything, but based on the word of a third party and the fact that your friendship's not 'normal' we're kicking you out.

I'm not "effed up". Oh, and I didn't know this wasn't a private thing. Since they do receive funding from CA, they should follow the rules of a public institution.

And yes, I can. The church condemns both.

Yeah, and there was a time when many churches used to the Bible to support segregation. Sometimes people DO have to fight against the church.

But I agree that if this were a private institution only, they would have the right to kick people out for being gay. It's disgusting, but it's how things are.

So can we take it then that you have gone straight and are following your church's santioned way of lifestyle?

re: Teens sue Riverside evangelical school over lesbian suspicions

At my school last year (a private Catholic school) my priest and principal told me I couldn't tell anyone I was gay.

So then when I got out of the school, I told everyone, and left the church.

My mom says she wishes she had the strength to flipp both of them off when we talked to them.

Good for you!!! Not as bad as your experience, but for a time as a kid I attended a (small, private, Roman Catholic) elementary school where 'we do not talk about' the fact that my parents were divorced (I had to refer to my mom's boyfriend as my mom's 'friend,' etc.). And- I was attending the school on scholarship, as I'd scored so high on their admissions test that, if not for the fact that I took it in front of one of the nuns, they would have said I'd cheated and made me take it over (seriously, that's what my mom was told). Loved my test scores, hated my parentage.
This was back in the 80s, so I hope they've changed since then, (esp with the divorce rate these days), but when people wonder why I hate the sanctimoniousness that is organized religion so much I tell 'em about my time there.

I can see why the girls are suing, but why do they want to go back to that school?

Billy Bones: Aye, but also, beware running with scissors or any other pointy object. It's all good fun, until someone loses an eye.

BillyBones, the point about going back to the school will probably be moot by the time this gets through the appeals process. That said, you can't sue over things like this and make Constitutional appeals unless you have an actual concrete grievance. So saying they want to go back to the school gives them grounds for the lawsuit.

This sounds like a witch hunt to me, since the school also has Jewish and non-Christian students enrolled. They just don't want gay people around, at least noticeably gay people. I think the girls should consider their expulsion a blessing in disguise and go be happy lesbians. That's what they'll end up doing anyway.

re: Teens sue Riverside evangelical school over lesbian suspicions

exactly lildogs......the VERY scary part is that they have NO proof the girls are lesbians, but are only suspected of being lesbians.......funny, how many people were rounded up in Nazi Germany "suspected" of being Jews, academics, etc.

This is a VERY tiny school in Wildomar, CA......I mean heck, they don't even have a library (which means this faggot doesn't have to deal with them professionally).....here is their website

http://www.clhs-chawks.org/

click on "staff".....and tell me their principal doesn't look Tres Gay......and these are the classes he teaches...

CLHS FACULTY MEMBERS
Pastor Gregory Bork

Principal
Word of God - 12
Latin I, II, III
AP Psychology
Handbell Choir
Concert Bells

The damn bigot doesn't even list his email........but here is the school general email.....EMAIL THEM and tell them what you think.....

clhs.office@clhs-chawks.org

Also, the state and/or federal funding they receive, IF ANY will be minor...and would be administrated through Riverside USD, or Alvord USD......but even the larger catholic high schools in LA get maybe $1000-$2000 from Title 5......so trust me, that threat won't work with them.

re: Teens sue Riverside evangelical school over lesbian suspicions

i did a little digging. they DO NOT receive any state funding. However, they collect tuition, which means they have to abide by the rules of any CA business (and, according to state law, cannot discriminate against anyone based on sexual orientation).

re: Teens sue Riverside evangelical school over lesbian suspicions

touchme, that doesn't apply......trust me....all private schools collect tuition, and they still have the legal right to decide who their student body will be....although with the recent decision with the Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii being forced to now accept people with no Hawaiian blood....perhaps that will change.......
