Oh Mary-Ethel, one of my all-time favorites! I remember the first time I heard it sung (Ella) and marveling at the wordplay:
"Sometimes I think I've found my hero
But it's a queer ro
-mance"
Brilliant! and the part about the "Rats from the harbor/are sweethearts my good luck have sent me"!
That Lorenz Hart! I think I love him!

Quick Trivial Pursuit "on the fly":
In what Broadway Musical did Ruth Etting introduce "Ten Cents a Dance"?

Actually, Etting did not introduce the song in SIMPLE SIMON. She was not in that production. She did, however, perform and record what was considered to be the definitive version of Rodgers & Hart's song from the 1930 Broadway production.

That's VERY interesting, Jose'.
I've always wondered why the IBDB does not list Etting in their cast list of SIMPLE SIMON...
re: Ten Cents a Dance#12
Posted: 8/9/05 at 10:44amI thought she joined the Broadway cast two months after it opened, because "Love Me or Leave Me" was also added to the score then, even though it was by Kahn and Donaldson.
