Hi, my local community theatre is doing a production of Next to Normal later this year and i'm trying to find the right piece to audition with. Normally I wouldnt have a problem but when it comes to rock musicals I never seem to have a song that works. I'm a mid range tenor. I like singing stuff from Spring Awakening and RENT but I don't want to use anything from those shows because I hear the're overdone in auditions. Does anybody have any suggestions ?

How about something from Footloose or We Will Rock You? American Idiot is also a good show to look at but most of the songs aren't clean if that's an issue.

Maybe something from Jesus Christ Superstar or Love Never Dies?

I just got done playing Gabe in a regional theatre. I came in with Goodbye from Catch Me If You Can. It fits the same area in the voice and stays in the rock/pop feel. Hope that helps!

And I just got cast as Henry in my local Theatre's production. I used Don't Do Sadness and was told that surprisingly not a lot of people used Spring Awakening, mostly out of the same fear you expressed. Lot's of people used songs from Les Mis, Wild Party, and Last 5 Years. Hope this helps.
