I saw the clip of Terri Shiavo's parents shaking hands with the Pope and to use the term “meet” is a bit of an exaggeration, don’t you think?
They were in a crowd of people and had somehow made it to the front of the barrier (I am sure they were very polite and said “excuse me, but we MUST meet with the Pope and let him know of our horrible plight, thank you!”) and shoved the picture of Terri in his face. He didn’t take it, one of his assistants did.
This is sort of like being at the Today Show with a “Hello Lubbock!” sign as Al Roker passes by and shakes your hand and telling everyone you “Met with Al Roker to discuss the condition of Lubbock and what could be done to save it.”
Just another example of these wacko people using their dead daughter to gain public sympathy.
I thought the same thing when I saw this.
Well, since they failed to get their daughter's malpractice settlement money, they have to cling to their 15 minutes of fame long enough to score a lucrative book deal.

I saw this in the morning paper and thought it was very odd. First, does this Pope speak English? Did he know who these people were? How did the news media know this was going to happen?
This photo was taken in St. Peter's Square--not in a private audience.
I would repeat what I posted about Schiavo's parents, but I know how much it upset DGrant, so I will refrain.
