Anyone else just dying...dying...DYING to see this film? I just have the trailer on repeat. It's so fantastic. This is like the film I see in my dreams.
I mean seriously. Go to the website and watch the trailer and the clips (Clip 3 is my favorite. Wow.):

Huh. I went and watched the trailer, 'cause I love terry Gilliam, but I have to say, this doesn't look that good to me. Mainly because that little girl could not be more annoying. I hate her fake southern accent. It's just bad. Bummer, 'cause Brazil and The Fisher King are two of my all time favorite movies...

Really? I hear that little girl is incredibly good in the movie.
I'd expect this movie to be one of those movies (like Terry Gilliam's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS) that I disagree with the major consensus on.
OMG, her southern accent was driving me up the wall. No southern talks like that, unless they are over 100 years old and from countryside, Georgia. I don't know if I can sit through 2 hours of that.

I could sit through two hours of Gilliam directing traffic.
Maybe I will just wear ear muffs.

No. As soon as she started talking I exited out. Again, NO southerner I have ever heard (and I live in the south so I hear the accents everyday) talks like that. But, I may suck it up and watch the rest later.

Can't you just chalk it up to whimsy?
Hee! I don't know why, but that made me giggle! =)
And I am so glad you agree with me spidey! Particularly as you're actually from the South. I found it impossible to listen to.
I suppose though, to be fair, I should go watch clip 3. I love Mr. Gilliam, so I owe him that much.

I'm from the South too and, believe me, I haven't heard any child talk like that either. But that should not matter because TIDELAND is a FANTASY.
Besides, can't you give Jodelle Ferland a break? She's like 12...and Canadian...
Why don't they even give an ACTUAL southerner these southern roles? They are usually northeners, british, or canadian. I have wondered this for a long time.

I was thinking the same thing as spidey. Like they couldn't have done a casting search and found a talented Southern kid? And that's exactly why I'm not giving her a break; she's Canadian. (I'm only half kidding about that...the outsourcing of acting jobs is actually a real problem...)
And I understand about it being a FANTASY - did you not read my post about loving Brazil and Fisher King? - which is why I'm giving her a pass on her laughable British accent (I watched Clip 3, and obviously it's her own voice as the voice of that British doll's head) but I don't think that excuses her completely awful Southern accent if her character is supposed to be from the South. Now, if it turns out that her character is actually from Connecticut and just imagines she's from the South, I'll humbly eat my words.
I'm glad you're looking forward to the film, and I hope it does well at the box office. I was just shocked by how bad Jodelle's accent (and acting) was. In my opinion.
Interestingly enough, I looked her up on IMDB and discovered she's the girl who was in Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital, and I remember thinking how awful the little girl was in that, too. I guess her style just rubs me completely the wrong way.

I also think she's the little girl in the Silent Hill movie.
And the reason why this film was shot and produced in Canada is because most American studios are deathly afraid of Terry Gilliam.

Sadly, that's our loss.
And I think you're right (re: Silent Hill). I think she keeps getting cast purely because of her look. Very creepy, sad eyes... But she really bugs me.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I saw Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in the theater, and quite liked it.
