I hope it goes better than it did the first time. If anyone has ever seen LOST IN LA MANCHA, it is one of the saddest films ever made. But, essentially, Gilliam should not have started production until he had enough money.

I loved Lost in La Mancha and you are right, its very sad. Gilliam has the right vision and should do this. If the film is a hit, I hope he does the other project he has wanted to do and thats 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court'.
I don't get enough time to follow cinema as well as theatre but Terry Gilliam's unique and off-the-wall vision always interests me. So I'm hoping it happens as well.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know the full story behind Lost In La Mancha so I might be wrong. But, wasn't one of the lead actors injured in this film so that he couldn't ride a horse again?
That was one screw up of what turned out to be a Cluster F*ck, Winston! They also lost all their camera equipment in a flash flood and stood by helpless as it washed by their encampment. The whole production seemed under a black cloud.
I was actually working in Barcelona on a commercial shoot and some of the crew had just gotten off that project. They went on and on about all the mishaps. Seems Don Quixote is a cursed property.

The movie implied that the biggest problem was that Gilliam started before he had the budget in place. He was trying to use less money than he originally planned for.

I recommend Lost in La Mancha to people frequently. I need to watch that again, it's been quite a while.
Yes, Winston, the man playing Don Quixote (I've forgotten his name!
) injured his back.
Is he still alive? He was in his 70's and I thought diagnosed with prostate cancer at the time. He was great. Perhaps they could get John Neville to play the part instead. I loved him as Baron Munchausen.

Gilliam always has trouble with money; yet he somehow manages to make his films his own way. Even if they're complete disasters, they're usually more interesting and more visually stunning than those of a lot of successful directors with barrels of CGI at their command.
Anyone know if TIDELAND was any good?
