Thanksgiving Day Activities

Thanksgiving Day can be more than stuffing your face (lol) and watching NFL football. I will be running in local turkey trot (8k) with my son and daughter which will be fun. The proceeds from the registration/T-shirt sale will go to a homeless shelter in town. We will clean up after the race and then will be joined by my wife to serve Thanksgiving meals to people at a local rescue mission. We will spend a couple hours there and then head home to enjoy the holiday with my in-laws. Kudos to my sister in-law and brother in-law for handling dinner preparation while we are gone.

Everyone has their own special way of enjoying the holiday but personally I like being able to get some exercise for a good cause and help people enjoy a good meal. Most of us on this site are probably fairly well off and have a lot to be thankful for so if you can it would be nice to also help others.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

'Bougie' vs. 'Boujee': there's a slight difference between these words that you should know. Their differences are:

  • bougie (BOO-zhee) - someone who acts like they are richer or in a higher economic class than they really are; old money
  • boujee (BOO-jee) - someone who is upwardly mobile and is actually in a higher economic class than others; new money

Which of these do you see yourself as?

"Which of these do you see yourself as?"

I never have thought about it. I am an IT manager for major company, and my wife is a doctor so I will let you figure it out -lol. My point was that people who have been fortunate in life should try to help people in need. It does not have to be a donation of money; you can help by lending a helping hand to people less fortunate.

Speak for yourself.

"so if you can it would be nice to also help others."

Maybe you could offer me a remote job of some sort - I promise I'd accept, even if it's a few hours a week and no benefits. (Unfortunately Maryland requires that I get $15 an hour, which I know I'm not worth.)

I'm a little sad to read that statement. You made a change to this post @12:17am.

You also recently updated your profile pic to one that shows yourself more clearly. IMO, it's a change for the better. I feel that I can assume you think it was a better choice, also. (If you didn't, you might have just kept the original in place.)

So... at the very least, you have the ability to make some changes for the better. Keep that in mind, stay on that path, and delete that line about not being worth $15/hr. That would certainly be another change you make for the better.

"Speak for yourself."

Read statement again. I said "most" people not everyone. Ever read all the posts about people going to numerous Broadways shows, that usually takes a bunch of money. There are others that talk about bouncing back and forth to London, that takes money. Generally, I stand by my statement that most people who post on this site are doing pretty well financially. I could be wrong, but it is just an assumption.

Unfortunately, you do not have the skill set I would look for in my department, and we have no openings. My boss is one of those "lean and mean" guys and even when somebody does leave, he does not always allow me to replace them.

Given that the average Broadway ticket buyer makes around $200,000 per year, I think your assumption is safe.
