I remember that night well… I also remember being pissed off because there were so many better American hardcore bands who were serious about what they were doing, like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. Still it was funny.

Are people classifying Dead Kennedys as hardcore now? I thought they were one of the last serious entries to the original era of punk rock.

It's irrelevant how they're categorized now. But you're right. They came up at the same time as Black Flag, but definitely had a second wave American punk sensibility that wasn't as sped up as the hardcore variety. I actually gave up on the DKs when they tried to keep up with the speedy young'uns.
