Okay, here are two of my favorite girl groups, and listening to early (late 60's) 3 Degrees, I notice they sounded a lot like The Shangri-La's (4 - sometimes 3 - Badass White chicks from Queens).
For those of you who know (and I doubt many of you do) what or who I'm talking about, which group do you prefer???

P.S. I must add that 3 Degrees were flawless with their harmonies, but Shangri-La's were controversial with their lyrics...Imagine, if they sang together...The Shangri-Degrees...

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I have many fond memories from childhood of the Three Degrees. I just adore "When Will I See You Again" re: The 3 Degrees or Shangri-La's.....?

Love the Three Degress. I also like the Shangri-La's. Their "Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)" is s favorite. I would have to go overall with the Three Degrees.

The Shangri-Las were considered the "bad" girls. They would be my choice.

The Three Degrees and the Shangri-La's were about 10 years apart, from completely different musical "eras" and styles. The Shangri-La's were a mid-60s group of very white chicks, whereas The Three Degrees were black girls whose hits came almost 10 years later.

I remember my father telling me a story about either knowing The Three Degress or their arranger or something like that. I'll have to ask him. All I know about them is their vocal on the, mostly, instrumental The Sound of Philadelphia ( let's get it on, it's time to get down...)

eslr...
Sorry to correct you, but the Three Degrees also started in the mid-sixties...They just didn't blow up until the 70's. Their first single "Gee Baby (I'm Sorry)" was released in 1965 - around the same time as the Shangs...

LOVED The Three Degrees. I somehow missed the Shangri-La's. Maybe I thought they had something to do with "Lost Horizon"...

Didn't the Shangri-Las sing LEADER OF THE PACK? Everybody knows that, don't they?
