I LOVE these movies so much...I'm sorry but they're just amazin movies.
When it comes to casting actors to play the parts of these well-known characters...the director did a superb job. Everyone of these actors fit the part so well. Raul Julia is a fiesty Gomez. Angelica Houston...come on...she IS Morticia. Christina Ricci and Jimmy Workman do great jobs as Wednesday and Pugsley. Carol Kane was born to play Grandma and Christopher Lloyd...his performance speaks for itself.
These movies are LOADED with celebrity cameos. Cynthia NIxon is one of the babysitters in the sequel. Dana Ivey, Christine Baranski, Charles Busch and Dana Ivey just to name a few. And I LOVE Joan Cusack in "Addams Family Values"...she's psycho...but she's brilliant at it.
Random post...but where are my Addams family lovers here?

The director doesn't cast.
The casting director casts the roles. Get it right.

Love these movies.
Especially "Values".
My boyfriend and I quote it constantly.
I particularly enjoy Debbie's slideshow sequence near the end.
"MALIBU BARBIE!"

The second one is one of my favorite movie comedies EVER. And that's due to Paul Rudnick's script.
Let's not overlook the fact that Judith Molina was Grandmama in the first one, but wasn't rehired for the second because she was "too political." (I believe she had signed some actorly petition against Gulf War I and Mr. Julia made some crack about being afraid to speak out and going along to get along).
Also, Charles Busch is in drag for a few seconds for the family photo in the first one. I guess the rest of his performance ended up on the cutting room floor.

Amanda Buckman: Is that your bathing suit?
Wednesday: Is that your overbite?
Gary Granger: One of you will be the drowning victim and the one will be our lifesaver.
Amanda Buckman: I'll be the victim!
Wednesday: All your life.
Morticia: You have gone too far. You have married Fester, you have destroyed his spirit, you have taken him from us. All that I could forgive. But Debbie... pastels?
A few of my favorites.
